Well, quitting finally took. I finally got fed up in this meeting with Scary Terry and decided to cut the cord. They wanted another couple weeks, but that meeting just grated on me so I made for the hills. I know those last few weeks of having me make copies and sort documents will be difficult to replace. Let that place burn.
Now I've got to head to work and try to quit again.
So funny thing happened trying to quit: they wouldn't let me. What's a guy need to do to lose their job around here?

I need to pass out. My Sunday was spent recovering from Saturday night and sleeping through football games. But my sleeping did cause me to miss the end of the game we were "stuck" with, the Texans; that one was decided on a last second touchdown. Blame it on the Crown and the Black Velvets.
As for Saturday night, I met up with J-Saw down at Crocodile Rocks with Sunshine. Met up with some other folks at Paradise before checking back with the Saw. And then I bolted off to Little Woodrow's to see 420 and the long lost JMVC. Then I lost my car. Fourty-five minutes of hunting tracked it down.

So Bubba and I get called into a meeting. Apparently there was some sort of approval for continuation of the project we are working on. They broke out the sparkling grape juice especially for the occasion. They sure know how to live it up.
Hmm, Rudy's for lunch, a new Dewey Lambdin book for Bubba, a Hockey News article about Steve Yzerman, what more could I want?
Why didn't anybody tell me that Texas is joining the Mega Millions multistate lottery? This is important stuff. This thing routinely gets into the nine figures and the chances will only increase with Texas joining the fray. I can't wait until my first series of disappointments of not winning. It's the white trash within me trying to creep its way out.
Vlad's band, The Paper Tigers, are playing a gig tonight (Friday) at the Kerbey Lane off 183. Their show starts at 9:30 pm and there is no cover. I'm not sure if they're playing any of their new songs, but I hear it'll be an unplugged set. |

These past couple of days have just flown by. The site seems to have taken a hit in terms of updating, but I'll do my best to get back up to speed soon enough.
Another appointment for lunch; I feel so special.
Wednesday, September 24, 2003
Always wanted to go to a Souper Salad. It wasn't all so great. Maybe I'll review it...
Back from the errand and, apparently, no copying is needed. I guess it is time to head to Borders with Bubba and grab some lunch.
Maybe not. Time to run my "errand."
Another day of being Kinko's man is ahead of me.
Tuesday, September 23, 2003
I go away for a weekend and half the world hits the site: the nation with the current tallest building in the world, the Kuala Lumpur Towers checked in; we've got our friendly neighbor to the south, Mexico coming to town; one of my favorite places in the world, Ireland, warmed me up for some Guinness with their hit; all my Spanish lessons must have brought Spain and Argentina knocking; I'm assuming the Korean visitor is from South Korean because North Korean is one step removed from the Stone Ages; the second biggest industrial power, Japan, came on board; and one of my top "Want to Visit" countries visited, Sweden. Maybe this is a sign that I should take more trips and not update the site.
And the nations are...

Friggin' Friendster's been down all day. And there master plan is to charge for it. Nice. Real nice.
I was just went to the break room. They've got three different soda machines. One had a Pepsi can on it, another had a Coke can, while the third had a generic soda can. I was a bit bewildered by this. Then I realized the machine with the generic can dispensed both Coke and Pepsi products.
Another case cracked.
Another case cracked.
Good lunch at Antonio's. Having a Cobb Salad almost felt healthy.
How dare they have work waiting for me? The audacity. Well, I have to go to lunch.
And I'm back. News of my death has been greatly exaggerated.

I've stumbled upon an Internet machine in this smoked out bar up in PU. I've got about three hours to get to the airport after a destruction-of-my-wallet weekend. I better start walking now. All the while hoping for Jerry Rice to die. Or have a bad game tonight.
Sunday, September 21, 2003
Well, time to head down south for the big game. A bit of tailgating is definitely in order.
Saturday, September 20, 2003
I know I'm back in PU at that moment I realize I'm eating out for every meal. And every one of those meals is taking years off my life expectancy.
The flight here went off without a hitch. No delays for anything. Getting up at 4 am put me in a bit of a rush, but all ended well.
Speaking of ending well, the hockey draft went well. Pictures to come, but the wheeling-dealing Estonian Cat's Heads (presented by ) came up with a roster reminiscent of last year's cup runner-up. The starting lineup:
C: Vincent LeCavalier (Tampa Bay Lightning)
LW: Todd Bertuzzi (Vancouver Canucks)
RW: Jarome Iginla (Calgary Flames) - acquired in a draft-day trade for Jaromir Jagr.
D1: Jiri Fischer (Detroit Red Wings)
D2: Sandis Ozolinsh (Anaheim Mighty Ducks)
G: Dominik Hasek (Detroit Red Wings) - acquired in draft-day trade for Patrick Lalime.
The rest of the team:
C2: Jason Spezza (Ottawa Senators)
C3: Mike Comrie (Edmonton Oilers)
LW2: Daniel Sedin (Vancouver Canucks)
LW3: Rick Nash (Columbus Blue Jackets)
RW2: Radek Dvorak (Edmonton Oilers
RW3: Brian Rolston (Boston Bruins)
D3: Mattias Ohlund (Vancouver Canucks)
D4: Adrian Ocoin (New York Islanders)
D5: Keith Carney (Anaheim Mighty Ducks)
D6: Tomas Zizka (Los Angeles Kings)
G2: Pasi Nurminen (Atlanta Thrashers)
G3: Dwaye Roloson (Minnesota Wild)
Enough about hockey; now it's time to get ready for tomorrow's football game.

A 6 am flight is no fun. Probably staying up until 1 am didn't help matters.
So I'm off to Parts Unknown for the weekend. See you later.

I just bough a Code Red and realized that I had another open one in the refrigerator. These are the times that try a man's soul.
So I'm walking by this person's cube the other day. It's all dolled up for the person's birthday. Somebody obviously went through some effort. Lots of balloons and ribbons and shite. Now a couple days later I happen by and the cube is totally cleared out except a couple balloons on the ground. Nothing says "Happy Birthday" like the axe.
So I'm switching channels before coming into the office and see a somewhat familiar face. Divorce Court is the show and the involved are in the judges chambers being advised by this familiar face. Then it dawns on me, the familiar face is Lorenzo Lamas. What the hell is doing giving advice to people on Divorce Court? Does he have some counseling degree? The daughter was giving him such a contemptible look when he talked. And I can't blame her. Imagine you're going through a divorce and are foolish enough to do it on tv, but to get some counseling from that tool, lame-ass Lamas. I think that girl realized she had just hit rock bottom.
Well, at least she's hitting it early in life. Some of us aren't so fortunate.

Holy shit, I set the HD up on the tv and this looks awesome. If there's a God, he's watching tv in HD.
While walking down the hallway, I happened by my supervisor's office. She's off today, but somebody left a note with a picture on the door. What the fuck are we still in college? What's next, dry erase boards? If it is college, this dorm sucks.
I just read an article about the Detroit Shock winning the WNBA title. How low have I gone?
I've been ulta-lazy as of late. I'm pretty sure I could sleep until noon, but I wanted to test out that theory. So last night I set my alarm for 8:45 am, assuming I'd wake up way before then. Well, the alarm barely woke me up. I think I got bit by a tsetse fly.
Welcome to Australia. I'm too tired to write any more. I must sleep.Tuesday, September 16, 2003
Well, the stuff hasn't made it's way back to BB, but I know have an HD converter back at Chilly's place. Lots of wires, plugs, remotes, and PIP configurations to figure out but, hopefully, it'll be worth it. The Seer says so, so it must be.
I've got a whole bunch of stuff to return to BB and lots of work to do. I wonder which will be prioritized as most important...
But most important is this: http://www.local6.com/news/2469188/detail.html
If you haven't seen a bear on a trampoline, you've got to check this out.

There are numerous countries I've never visited, but very few beckon me as much the newest country to hit the site, Russia. If only they didn't require visas, I would have gone a few years ago. |
There's a technology seer Chilly knows who's taken the time to help me and my tv. We've had established a dialogue and advised me for and against certain things. The "for" item is to get a new dvd player. As for the "nay," I'll take the s-video cable and fancy surge protector back to Best Buy kind of like that old lady in those Discount Tire commercials. Though tossing those items through a window may be difficult, I'll try anyway. And I'll take whatever advice The Seer gives since he praised the KV-34HS510 as "a sweet set."
And speaking of missions, I got my Brazilian visa in the mail today. Those guys sure know a thing or two about quick turnaround. I sent the app off only last Tuesday.
Another weekend gone, another work week started. I've got to run some errands and this work stuff is getting in the way.
Sunday, September 14, 2003
Another big week for ; with another couple hours to go, there have been over 150 visitors this week. I know that dialogue is funny and all, but not that funny. I'm not sure what it can be blamed on, though I'm pretty sure 420 putting as her "Cool Link" on her Yahoo! profile isn't solely responsible.
What's up for this week? Let's see...oh, I'm heading to PU on Friday. Maybe another Thursday at Shady Grove? A return of Thursday's at B-Sides? What does the week hold for The Purveyor? Only time will tell.

Going to Mangia Pizza turned out to be my going out for the night. Unless you count some late-night shopping at HEB. So this is what it is like to go a whole weekend without going out? Indeed a rarity.
Now I'm at work. I need to get some stuff done before the NFL games start in a couple hours. Anyone in the area should feel free to come on by.

Well, UT may have lost, but FSU pulled one out of their arse.
The damn Nebraska-Penn State game was on ABC, so there was only one way to see the game. Brewer told me that Tech used the local Mangia Pizza location as their base. I was a little concerned about going to a Tech bar because that's usually the kiss of death. I put that to the side and dragged Chilly with me for the second half. I should have gone for the last 8 minutes for that's when the comeback happened.
Two late touchdown drives by Chris Rix later: Florida State 14, Georgia Tech 13.
All in all, a decent day of football. Besides FSU's win, Michigan DESTROYED Notre Dame. University of Michigan Wolverines 38, Overrated Golden Domers of Notre Dame 0. In front a NCAA record crowd of 111,726, Michigan handed Notre Dame the worst defeat in the over-100 year rivalry between these two teams.
And that's sports, back to you Nancy.

Another season of high expectations ends with disappointment. That is the University of Texas way. Arkansas 38, Texas 28.
I may be at work, but at least I'm not watching UT getting beat. And at home versus and unranked opponent. If only JMVC had been able to roast that pig...

It is Saturday and instead of enjoying a relaxing day on the new couch in front of the television, I'm here at work helping out Bubba. Rather, waiting for Bubba. He's a few minutes late, but rumor has it that he's bringing breakfast tacos.
I didn't end up doing anything last night. Well, unless you consider breaking in the new couch work.

Lot's of activity taking place over at Chilly's. A new couch is on its way (and this one we can count on). Hopefully that will be in place by tonight. Well, I guess that's not a lot of activity...
Tonight JMVC's planning on seeing Grupo Fantasma at Ruta Maya. I don't know how Ruta Maya can hold Grupo Fantasma; maybe I'm thinking of another place. Anyway, it's located at 3601 South Congress. And when I say "South" I mean South. But it is in the 04 so it's got that going for it.
I'm not sure if I'll go or break in the new couch and prepare for working the weekend. Hmmm.

I've got all these movies and no idea where half of them came from, but when you've got three days of comedies end with Monty Python and the Holy Grail you're doing something right. And I don't think I'll ever get sick of saying it (though people will get sick of hearing it) but my tv's bad ass; everything looks great on it (even the sunglasses I left on the right corner). |
Before the movie I went down and checked out Reckless Kelly at Shady Grove. It was a pretty good show, but I like pretty much any show that has a Rolling Stones' cover. Pus the show finished just in time for the rain to pour.
It has begun again.
Bubba is the first Austin inductee in the Dewey Lambin reader's club. S. Money started it off in Parts Unknown and I've taken it nationwide. Fans in Maryland, Florida, and...well, now Texas. Mr. Lambdin (please note I'm actually showing him respect) wrote a series of naval adventures based on a late 18th century naval officer named Alan Lewrie. The books are bad ass. Bubba reads slower than a mule so there will be time for me to find the next potential member. Qualifying school consists of begging and pleading. Buying drinks won't hurt either.
And speaking of Mr. Lambdin, there's another book in the series coming out in December. Havoc's Sword is the 11th in Lambdin's Alan Lewrie series. Amazingly I've read the previous ten. More amazing is that I've read ten books that aren't entirely comprised of pictures.

I had a bit breakfast and I'm hungry already. I think I have a tapeworm.
I just got out of this meeting and my supervisor was talking about possible conflict of interest. There's another company taking over this account so she wanted to make sure that we weren't in any way helping the new company. "You're not being paid to work for another company" or words to that effect. I'm absolutely certain that they are fine with paying me to work on my web site.
Two years at this time I was sleeping the sleep of the unemployed. Such a peaceful sleep just to be woken up by a phone call to put on the tv. I told them to piss off and I went back to sleep. Terrorists attacking the World Trade Center? That's ridiculous. I mean they faked the moon landing, they could fake this, too. I haven't been to NYC to check out the site, plus I'm sure they could get tens of thousands people to make up stories about death and loss; needless destruction and courageous acts; misunderstanding and retaliation. I guess it could be like that.
I'm not really sure how this whole thing started or how it will end, but I do know that I live in a country where I can be irreverent about a national tragedy. That's got to be better than hating people you don't know and killing hundreds of them simply living their lives. At least hate and want to kill me after meeting me, that's how everyone else operates.
But on a serious note, some times I go to bed not wanting to brush my teeth. Invariably, I end up brushing them anyway. Fancy that.

Some more updates to the site:
- a new recipe added to the Recipes page (sure to shut up Bubba).
- pictures added to the recipes, too.
- more links added to the Links page.
- pictures from the Labor Day Weekend camping trip.
- two new movie Reviews.
Another night of Spanish and things are slightly less bad. Lots of conversation and conjugation lead to frustration and exasperation, but in the end I'll reach Spanish satisfaction. But you've got to love it when a teacher's comfortable enough (with the pupils) to bitch about Dubya.
Then to night two of "Movies at Chilly's" to bring Caddyshack back into my life. Man, that's an awesome movie.

Hey Belgians, come on down. I worked in Brussels for a drink of water and thought I made an impact. If there was any doubt, this is the proof. Thank God that those two weeks working in a cloud of menthol cigarettes did more than give me emphysema. |
So I get this email from one of the folks in Azerbaijan. My friend j.ray is over these with some other Americans. They're at a party and on of the guys in her group runs into an old friend from New York City. They're in friggin' Baku, Azerbaijan and he's pulling a JMVC ("Pulling a JMVC". noun. The routine act of running into acquaintances wherever one goes.). I typically like going a quarter-way around the world to see old friends, but if this guy wants to one-up me by going halfway, more power to him. I think it is a bit ridiculous considering I don't know him, so upstaging me doesn't really bother me. Well, not much. Maybe somebody should tell him.

You've asked for it, The Paper Tigers' debut single, "Circle and a Line" is now available for download from my audio page. Please note this a whole MP3, so this will take some time to dowload.

The visa application for Brazil is finally in the mail. I may be pushing the envelope in terms of cutting it close, but six weeks should be enough turnaround time. Speaking of Brazil, trying to get RF to come along for the fun.
And while I was at Kinko's getting passport photos, the radio played a Def Leppard song followed by Lionel Richie. I'm sure they both had that in mind when they started their careers.

Spanish class actually went halfway decently. I did more preparatory work than we went over, so I'm actually ahead of the game for Wednesday. As a result, I'll do nothing. I'll show them, I'll show everyone.
I did have some fun after class. I was cooking up some stuff and thought something smelled off. Turns out I had inadvertently burned off a majority of the hair on the lower portion of my forearm. Let's hope that any singed hair in the food adds character.

I've decided to become a pita eater. Sandwiches in pitas. Salads in pitas. The options are endless.
Well, la-di-da. Last week was the biggest week in the history of with 125 unique visitors. That's the biggest week since my birthday. I had hoped that my birthday would have been the high-water mark for the site, but I guess not. We've also had some visitors from South Africa grace us with their presence. Lots of countries, though very few returns. Quite interesting. |
I think I've mentioned this before, but the funny thing about South Africa is that Johannesburg is the most dangerous city in the world. The second most is my travel destination for late next month, Rio De Janeiro. Hmm, I'd imagine these "danger city" polls don't count Kabul or Baghdad. Besides, I got this info from Bubba so the statistic is probably bunk.
Tonight's another night of Spanish. This is only going to get uglier.
I think email's broken again.
I keep having dreams that I'm driving trying to put on my seat belt. I hear Harrison Ford was doing that and got into an accident and that is how he got that scar on his chin. I could only be so lucky.
Well, the first night of the television was a tremendous success. ESPN broadcast the Sunday night game in HD so the household sat in wonder at the beauty of high-definition. Vlad busted out the two LOTR movies to check out on our viewing wonder. I may not be able to go out for the next few months, but at least I'll have a cool tv to check out.
And Vlad's joined Chilly and me in talking for significant amounts of time about nothing. We saw a commercial on tv and managed to rapidly discuss and dissect Jerry Hall, Jeri Ryan, and Geri Halliwell without anyone real breaks for breathing. I had hoped to keep Vlad from that. Poor kid.

The first week of fantasy football is going pretty good. I'm up by a couple points, thought my opponent has his QB to play. That could be trouble. My good fortune thus far is a result of listening to my brother's advice on Charles Rogers. He is usually virtually worthless but not today.
Speaking of family, my parent's are leaving parts unknown for the old country. I'm glad my folks have decided to wait until their 70's to start travelling.

For anyone at Donn's Depot, I apologize for being the lamest I've been in a long time. I really should have gone home early, but sitting and sucking down whiskey was so comfortable. Fortunately, The Saw, Brewer, Biology, and Sparty joined up with JMVC and provided more than enough entertainment to offset my dead-ass.
I'm pretty excited because it is only a few hours until football. I'm waking up Vlad around 10 am to hit Best Buy and get a new tv. A whole day of lying around watching football sounds great.
After some deep sleep.

I've got a nice sunburn as a reminder from the Tour Stop. Between the sun, the beer, and my typical laziness, I'm dead. That nap wasn't nearly enough.
Anyway, I picked up Chilly and now the house is back full. He was doing one of his northern tours.
I'm a bit late for Donn's Depot. JMVC's been there since 9 am holding down a table. Everyone knows how uncomfortable he is being by himself so I got to go.

Jim Rome was great. The event lasted only an hour, but Rome managed to rip on the Aggies, OU (who, apparently, still suck), Rochester, New York, and the French. Coincidentally the French material seemed very similar to The JMVC's take from his call to Rome on Friday. He says he considers it flattering.
I've got to take a nap because I've got a pick-up from the airport, the Florida State game to savor, and Donn's Depot to hit.
FYI, six hours of drinking to start the day is a lot of work.

Some problems with Blogger today so all these important posts from today could not be seen. That's a shame.
Jim Rome is in town and JMVC, The Saw, and I are hitting the tour stop tomorrow. Drinking starts at 8. AM. That should impact any plans for tonight and destroy my cognizance for the rest of tomorrow. The plans call for seeing the Nash Hernandez Orchestra at Donn's Depot tomorrow night. We'll see.

Being as lazy as I am, I've started showering the before going to bed. Theoretically, this would give me more time to sleep and still get to work early. Solid plan, poor execution.
Well, First Thursday and Lo's sister's birthday tonight. First item on the agenda was the birthday where I got to hear mariachi band. 420 joined JMVC and me towards the end before we headed off to South Congress. I'm pretty sure we went there earlier last time, but there was still plenty of activity. JMVC ran into five groups of people he knew, 420 two, and let us not discuss The Purveyor.
Anyway, we had some beers around there before ending up at Continental Club. I believe I swore off that place the last time. Unfortunately I have a bad memory. JMVC hounded 420 until she danced with him. Break down all resistance until they can say nothing but "yes" to shut you up, that's the only way to go.

I just had some of my pasta salad from the camping trip. I don't know what the expiration of that stuff is, but I'm pretty sure it has past. It has had its moment in the sun. Literally.
OK, I've put some of the pictures from the Labor Day camping trip up. More from the water-proof camera in a couple days.

I was checking out the stats for and here are some keywords that brought back hits on the site:
- texas death ping pong
- "dennis quaid" came into the store
- death metal chick of the week (not much of a shock)
- pistol grip pump homegrown
- taco of death
I'm in my second week of listening to music while sleeping. Results so far: more sleep, less exercise.
Well, I'm off to another day ahead in paradise.

As for the fun for Tuesday, a group of 420's friends met up for the festivities at Z. Tejas for a pretty good meal. JMVC pulled his "oh, I forgot my wallet" trick for the umpteenth time. I bailed him out for the umpteenth time. Will I ever learn? Anyway, good meal (I had the stuffed pork tenderloin) followed by some cheap, but not $1.75, beers at Little Woodrow's. Turns out the $1.75 is only for Bud, Bud Light, and Miller Lite. Everything else was still pretty cheap, so I can only complain so much.
Well, pictures from 420's birthday are up. I will soon not be. This post is done.

I some times worry about losing my job. Well, they've come up with some new work for me to do. My team's going to go through some filing cabinets and determine what needs to be saved or destroyed. Only 1600 filing cabinets. That will kill any need to not come into the office hung over. And I think I can lose this thing and not care too much.

I've got things pretty much sorted out at the house. Well, as sorted out as that place can get with only me and Vlad around. Time to head into work. I wonder how screwed up things are?
- I was getting a beer and saw this drunk-ass woman hitting on this guy...with her daughter in tow...with some other dude leering at the situation and the woman egging him on.
- A couple recounted a story about trying to sit down with a non-smoker. He didn't mind if they smoked as long as they were swingers.
- A dude with a back brace came asking people to help him get his wallet out of his back pocket.
- Charlie Robinson giving a shout out to the troops and saying "How you doing Gruene Hall" like a thousand times.
- Charlie (we’re close like that) playing just enough of some classic rock tunes to get me interested just to go back to his country songs.
- And there was me driving everyone home. Within five minutes, everyone was sleeping.

There isn't much better than coming back from a two days of getting very little sleep on the ground than coming back to a comfy bed for some sleep of the dead. That one thing would be following up that sleep with a nap for another couple of hours. There's so much left over food that I'm able to just pick at stuff and lay back down.
OK, Saturday saw most of the group hitting Schlitterbahn. I had never been to the place before, but I know for certain they need to import some more attractive women to that place. There's something wrong with bringing most of the attractive people to the park. Then we killed the day on some decent rides, though the waits were way too long. I guess the place is best not hit on Labor Day Weekend.
We probably pushed it in terms of time as we got back to the camp site about an hour an half from when we needed to be gone. Fortunately one of J-saw's friends lit the camp fire so we could toss on food.

What sounds better: passing out after drinking all weekend and getting about 8 hours of collective sleep or staying up another bit of time and posting some of the weekend's activities? Well, you know the answer.
I got home a bit ago from a rain-soaked downtown atx. We had to create our own fun, but I rarely have a tough time doing that. And, fortunately, the company I kept was from Houston so a lazy, rainy Sunday night is better than their best times.
Anyway, I'll stick to Friday. MT and I headed out around 5 pm loaded down with more booze and food than some shipments to Liberia. Traffic was not much of an issue and we made decent time. I'm usually against Internet mapped directions, but these brought us past two beer barns and lots of non-20 mph zones so I had no complaints. We arrived to find J-saw finishing up food preparations. Walking Texan showed up with DM a couple hours later to help me drink until about 5 am. Kind of sad, but it was just three of us. And this in a group of about 20. More time for the beer bong for us, I guess.
That's Friday. I'm passing out.

There are numerous countries I've never visited, but very few beckon me as much the newest country to hit the site, Russia. If only they didn't require visas, I would have gone a few years ago.
Hey Belgians, come on down. I worked in Brussels for a drink of water and thought I made an impact. If there was any doubt, this is the proof. Thank God that those two weeks working in a cloud of menthol cigarettes did more than give me emphysema.
A string nearly as momentous as Cal Ripken's consecutive hits or FDR's four terms as President ended last night. Tuesday for cheap beer (first at B-Sides than to Little Woodrow's) died for me. Instead of that, I tossed around the frisbee, worked on the site, did some Spanish, and watched
Chalk up the Swiss and Peruvian to the country list. The site's becoming an international phenomenon.
