I had a crazy work lunch. This guy brought up the subject of eating pork to a vegetarian and it came out that, well, how can I put this delicately? I don't think it possible, but let's just the guy didn't eat pork products because pigs affected his family.

Great day today. Beautiful outside so me and the Seerwah's went to a park then to the Oasis. I'll have to post some pictures.

Boring night in watching a borrowed copy of Mr. Show. I can't say too much good about it. I will say that I'm still waiting for the funny part.

I just heard Pat Benatar blasting from the men's restroom.

Sweet, the Pistons play down in San Antonio in March. I'll have to take my bandwagon ass down there.

Quiet Friday night, made dinner for the Seerwah's. And today I actually went for a run. I truly am in horrible shape. I was out of breath before my first foot hit the pavement.

Yesterday was virtually worthless and then came the fun part. Came back from lunch to a seminar on "Managing Change". This poor person from HR never got past the first slide. Just turned into a total bitch session. And it probably wasn't a good idea to invite the people who are getting the axe to a meeting where they're talking about "survivor guilt."

Reorganization meeting yesterday. Nothing better than getting called into an "all hands" meeting for 9 am. My boss had given me the sense that I wasn't going to be made redundant, but there still is the sense of dread when you walk into a room with all the HR folks sitting against the back wall. Our manager's a sourful tic-tac so his presentation was more somber than a eulogy. Even those who still had their jobs left thinking they had only received a brief reprieve. After that meeting got over, we had a smaller team meeting where things were made slightly better. Then the one-on-ones came. The one resounding comment from management: business as usual. So Fat Boy and I left to hang out, drink beer, and watch Curb Your Enthusiasm's first season. That's my status quo.

I just had a conversation about Puccini operas in the bathroom.

Before going to bed, I made up my lunch. This is the most proactive I've been in months.

It's Elvis' birthday and I'm going to meet up with The Brewer at Chuy's for some twinkes while shooting guns into TVs. I really shouldn't after having Everclear Mexican Martini's last night. Those were a bit tough to deal with.

One of the guys here had a going-away happy hour at Baby Acapulco's last night. I ordered the drink of the hour, the Mexican Martini, and forgot that those thing are dangerous at that place. I forgot they put Everclear in with the rest of the booze.

Went to see The Last Samurai last night and was surprised that it wasn't just Last Samurai. Most movies these days lose the "a" or "the" because it takes Americans too long to understand that those words are only meant to introduce the rest of the title. As a result, executives in Hollywood have systematically determined we don't need them anymore. Why you're at it, I don't think we need adjectives. Or complicated words. So, Samurai was ok; a little preachy. And it was definitely no King.

I'm all for these missions to Mars, but I think the first main picture back could be something other than a 3D image. I'd kinda like to see some pictures without digging around for my non-existent 3D glasses. And Americans may get a bad rap, but at least we can land something on Mars. |

What's this about Britney Spears getting married. I heard something on TV that it was a joke that went too far. Now I don't know about you, but most of my jokes end with somebody laughing (or a bewildered look on their face). None of my jokes end with marriage. I guess those Louisiana folks have different sense of humor. I'll have to ask Bubba.
I know very few people care, but the USA won its first gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championships with a 4-3 victory over Canada today. The tournament was being played in Finland and features the best hockey players under 20 years old. This is a big victory for the USA as it tries to promote its youth hockey development. The Canadians led going into the 3rd period by a score of 3-1, but the USA received three goals (including two from Mike O'Sullivan) to take the game. The NHL Center Ice package I have was showing the game, but the feed was all screwed up so I missed most of the game. Great game for the Americas, though nobody will ever hear about it. No representatives from any USA network made the trip to Helsinki. You'd figure ESPN would send a token over since they broadcast NHL games and the tournament always features future NHL stars. Maybe Chris Berman will have something in his "Top Ten Plays" for next week, but I doubt it. |
