who is the winner?Well I am done a full twenty-four hours early. As of about an hour ago, I'm at 50,331. And done for the night. Yes, my first attempt at the National Novel Writing Month ended in a glorious victory, oh how good it feels. Thought the dramatic close needs some work, but there's a story in there some where. Too late for me to bust out the champipple, though.

I roasted a chicken today and it turned out pretty damn good. Too bad today was supposed to be dedicated kicking out the words and completing my landmark first novel. The chicken and all of these decent football games on. Damn them all! Good thing there aren't new episodes of The Simpsons or Arrested Development to keep me from getting some stuff done tonight.

I just called out somebody for being self deprecating. Me! She has to be bad for me to say something.

It's like the late 80s around the TV dial, though playing the part of the LA Lakers is the Detroit Pistons. There were on last week versus Miami and tonight against Milwaukee. And besides that infamous game last Friday, I swear I saw them on the dial at least one other time. I mean enough's enough. I need less distractions from this burden of a book I'm writing.

The JMVC was nice enough to let me tag along to his family's Thanksgiving. Even with the Lions continuing their losing ways I had a great time. Well, that is until we decided to go see Alexander. That is a piece of shit. I need to write an incendiary review.

My lifelong dream of writing at a coffee shop is complete. I'm kicking out the words at Mozart's. Too bad it is a wee bit chilly or I'd stay longer. I'm going home.

Yet another night up to nearly 2 am. But it'll all be done soon. I'm at 41,026. So that's a little less than nine thousand words in seven days. Definitely doable, but harder will be coming up with a plot and some sort of resolution.

Tuesday, November 23, 2004

I left the office early under the pretense of avoiding traffic, but I ended up going shopping to Crate & Barrell, Best Buy, and Linens & Things. Yes, it is me making sure, single handedly I might add, that the economy of the ATX continues to pump.

Monday, November 22, 2004

I'm off to bed, but I'm ahead of the game now: 36,226. I guess when every team I root for gets their ass beat (in and out of the stands), I had to do something, anything to offset.

Saturday, November 20, 2004

For the first time in nearly four months, I have gotten a haircut. Now I must go lose money at cards...

Friday, November 19, 2004

I need to get on this NaNoWriMo thing because I am pretty far behind. I need to be at 35k by Sunday night. Right now, I'm at 27,051 so that means I need to get eight thousand words over the weekend. Quite a bit more than the average (which of course I'm way behind). The best I've done in a day is about three thousand in a day. So I have my work slightly cut out for me.

I just came back from the best cooking class ever, Contemporary Celtic Cuisine. There was a appetizer plate with salmon, assorted cheeses, and bread to start off with. Then there were mussels cooked in cider. And for the main course, stuffed chicken with colcannon.

But what made it truly good? Pints of good strong beer.

A slight bit behind the pace (a weekend of avoiding the effort does that to you), but I'm not out of it yet. I had 18,598 Friday and did just over 3,000 yesterday to get to 21,692. I need to average just under a 1,900 day. Definitely attainable, but I'll have to stop taking weekends off.

And in the office again before 7:45. I need to cut this stuff off, too.

Monday, November 15, 2004

In the office before 7:30 am? I will seriously regret this as I am already dragging. But I did miss all the weather related traffic so that's something.

Sunday, November 14, 2004

And I thought the smoky smell that I was smelling in my house was my fireplace. Au contraire, mon frere: it was my burned hand. That's pretty gnarly.

Recently received email (the manager mentioned is on my team):

Judi-
There is apparently a rodent issue in the Hoffman building. Rats have been spotted on the 2nd floor in section A. I was just advised that traps were put out by managers in the area & this morning the traps were full. Would you please call Real Estate & see what can be done & how soon? Please let Name Removed1 & Name Removed2 know the progress, as their teams are effected.

That could be about it. My computer crashed around midnight last night, I lost just over a thousand words, and I'll get next to no time this weekend to work on it. Screwed.

I went to bed last night with 15,078 words. And, conveniently, I woke up with the same amount. I'm insignificantly ahead of the pace (a measly 9 words), but considering PC's coming to town I'm behind. Over 6,000 words in two days ain't too shabby. And it took nearly eight hours over two days to accomplish. This is an investment, that's for sure. And to get ahead of the curve for the drunken foolish with PC won't make this any easier.

Tuesday, November 09, 2004

So Bubba's keeps emailing me and wants his name on the site. Well, there it is jerky boy. Put that in your pipe and smoke it with all the other fat cats.

I thought I was up, now I realize I'm still down 700 words. Somehow an extra day got slipped in. Damn neolefty! But I still managed over three thousand words today. Some of them even in real words.

I was forced to have a lunch meeting for Thursday (only time I could get the three of us together). Anyway, some other dingbat sets up a lunch meeting for the same time. And I sorta have to go to that meeting. So I have to reschedule the first meeting and Thursday's all booked for everyone. So we're talking next week. Today's only friggin Monday and I'm already talking about next week? What a joke.

Must get out of this writing rut. I'm below 9,000 words so that's about a thousand below where I should be. Even worse is that I can't seem to find any motivational music. I have like 25 GB of music and can't find a pot to piss in.

Must get to bed, early meeting tomorrow.

Man, I got fucked up last night. Damn you, The Saw! I was on the phone with Yo! priming the writing pump with some of the jug wine until about 10:30 when I finally got to the keyboard. Very little writing on Friday night, either, so I was behind. So I was getting going when The Saw called around 11:30 telling me to meet them downtown. He was with JMVC and Texas had come back from like 28 down, so they were partying it up. Next thing I heard out of my mouth was, "I'll be down there in 45 minutes." Those fateful words still echo in my head. Bad call. Especially after a few pint glasses of the jug wine already in the system. Needless to say, I'm only farther behind the writing curve now. About 1000 words behind and what I'm writing now looks like garbage. I spent a few hundred words describing the Triple Crunch Zinger. Quite the masterpiece I'm concocting.

Went to Seerwah's place after work. I bought an 18 pack and there were five left when I left. Damage was done, but I did make it to my cooking class. So that's something. And I gave blood, played some frisbee with Chilly, received a visit from Fat Boy, and, well that was it. Long night of writing ahead. After some more football.

There's this guy is on my extended team and we've had some conversations, but not real communication. He's not really much of a conversationalist. So I was surprised when he asked me out to lunch last week. He's a strange cat so I wasn't sure what to do. Being a team member I couldn't just ignore him; he seemed to be a sad fellow and lunches with me tend to make people's days. I eventually made plans with him for today, but figured I'd save myself from him by inviting other people. Well, that was a mistake. This was one of the most uncomfortable lunches ever. And not just the lunch. The elevator ride down to the lobby, walk to the car, drive to the restaurant, lunch itself, and then the same cycle back. And the waiter was shitty so we were there for almost 1 1/2 hours.

I like to keep my political thoughts to myself. Or, at the very least, away from people I work with. There's a couple reasons: not to offend anyone and not to look like an ignorant ass. Well, the three people I went to lunch obviously do not share the same opinion on opining. Anyone who actually discussing leaving the country because of the outcome of a presidential election is an idiot. Anyone who believes that we're about to reinstate the draft is an idiot. Anyone who thinks the Constitution of the United States of America can be changed without the states of those United States is an idiot. I only wish I didn't work with these people or I would've chimed in. I feel sick for not saying anything, but I'm not going to change their thoughts. People on the extremes, both right and left, are ideological zealots who should be shot on sight. Except Bubba.

After nearly six months in the house, I finally forgot to bring out the garbage. And when I looked into the can, I think I could go a month because the can was 80% empty.

Part of the reason for forgetting was the excessive wine drinking along with the brisket. Well, I it cooked too long, so it turned into more of a roast. But it was good. Soaking in wine for three-plus hours has got to help. The carrots and gravy were excellent. Next time it'll be even better.

Neolefty tried out this interesting brisket recipe, so I figured I'll try it out. I need to get the hell out of the office because it takes up to four hours to cook, and I want to eat tonight.

Good to see Kerry conceding instead of drawing out the process, but I can't believe how many votes Dubya got. I mean, it's not like we're in the best place right now and he beat Kerry pretty convincingly. I guess I could put my political science degree to work and figure something out, but that would be too much work.

I'm glad I stayed up to nearly 2 am just to wake up to a still undecided presidential election.

Now playing the part of Florida, the state of Ohio!

Tuesday, November 02, 2004

Over 3600 words in total. So that's just over 1000 tonight. Only writing for about a little over an hour. Maybe getting back to the election results has "encouraged" me.

2500 words in my first writing session. And that in less than two hours. If only it would be that productive every day.

Yo! on his last night of drinking. Friday and Saturday were a success, though he sorta wimped out yesterday and just drank throughout the day instead of getting plastered. Tonight's he's "drinking around the world" at EPCOT (at Walt Disney World). I don't think it's a sanctioned Disney event, but I'm sure Walt won't refuse the $50 to get into the park and then a beer at every pavilion.

With waking up an hour early, I was able to make a lunch and still be early for my dentist appointment. I guess waking up early does have its advantages.

I didn't set my alarm clock back, so I'm up an hour early for nothing and dressed for work. I could go to work early, but I have a dentist's appointment this morning so I'm just stuck here. That damn daylight savings time strikes again!
