My boss has pretty much requested I don't take off tomorrow and Friday. Bad enough I'll have to be here and not pick them up at the airport, but not taking scheduled vacation days sucks pretty hard. This place is nuts.

Waking up at 6:15 is a lot easier when you see emails about two of your favorite bands coming to town....

JMVC sent an email about Muse coming to town. JMVC has been talking about wanting this band to come to town for a while (I even bought him this CD for Christmas). And to top that, Razorlight is starting up for them. That's right, Razorlight of 2004 South by Southwest fame. For those old time readers of dmt, you might recall them (or maybe just me and The Saw). Anyway, a strange and great coincidence.

The show is on Saturday May 7 at Austin Music Hall (thank God for a Saturday show). Tickets for the show go on sale this Monday.

This day's hit the skids. Thank God S. Money will be here tomorrow. Having off Thursday and Friday won't hurt, either.

A quick trip to Wal-Mart and I've added Boggle, Yahtzee, and Jenga to the game section of the estate. And that's in addition to Scrabble, Star Wars Monopoly, and never-seen-the-light-of-day Taboo.

And I started off Yahtzee and beat my brother two out of three games. Woo hoo!

Forgot about my stop after dinner with Bubba: a trip to Target and another place without Code Red. They're screwing me; I swear it is a conspiracy. This is almost like the New Coke thing, maybe I'll have to buy a couple cases from Australia and have them shipped up.

Just got back from dinner with Bubba and one of his coworkers. Good thing that she's a contractor because I didn't need to worry about offending anyone. Lines about tossing kids into a closet and "I bought furniture like that...and burned it...in a fit of rage..." just don't work with people who you care about.

One of my coworkers car's tail light was busted out yesterday at work. That's just rude. She didn't notice until she got home last night. I can understand at mall, but at work?

Monday, March 21, 2005

I went out to get myself a Code Red and I couldn't find any. I hit three places and noboyd had them. I ended up buying this shit Arizona Ice Tea. Avoid the Pomegranate Green Tea like the plague.

I had all these grand intentions when I got out of bed at 6 am. Two rounds of my first tournament in Tiger Woods is all I can lay claim to.

Sunday, March 20, 2005

What an exciting night, ironing while watching television. Oh, it was a dream come true. Ironing my way through taped hours Alias and then live King of the Hill was suprising fun. OK, so it wasn't the craziest night ever, but a tame night after five nights of going out isn't such a bad thing.

And I got done with the ironing just with the in time to sit down for The Simpsons, ignore the worthless Malcom in the Middle and then sit back and enjoy Arrested Development. Man, I'll miss that show next year.

Anyway, I quick round of Tiger Woods and then off to bed.

That Whole Foods place blows. All I really wanted was garlic bread. How difficult is it to have frozen garlic bread? And then when I found the garlic bread they did have, there was one. If not for the Jamba Juice, I'd refuse to ever go back. And they're selling boneless rib-eyes for six bucks more than the place down the street. Funk that.

And now to overdose on basketball. First up, NBA action with Detroit taking on San Antonio before delving back into the NCAA tourney.

A long stretch of going out, hopefully, is done. It was Mac's birthday so me and my brother headed down towards where they were meeting. Started off at Brown Bar and was pleasantly surprised by the place. I know this was an old haunt of JMVC's, but the one or two times I had gone there I wasn't overly thrilled. Now I may go back and enjoy the three dollar Bud Lights. And I ran into another coworker (who actually seemed in a good mood; I guess getting out of the office does that for people).

Next stop was the slipshod Oslo. This pretentious, stuffy place is pretty much a waste of time. Whatever reviews that say this place is a place to go are wrong. I could never go to this place ever again and be satisfied. If not for the birthday girl, I wouldn't have even thought of going.

Then we met up with The Saw at Red Eyed Fly. He was trying to see a band, but the line was out stretched out beyond comprehension so we had a couple beers while discussing SXSW failing to deliver this year. Maybe it's just because the lineup was weaker than last year, but it sounds like all the decent acts were almost impossible to gain access to. Any way you look at it, I'm happy I didn't fork out the money for the wristband this year.

But we did have a nice breakfast at the original Kerbey Lane Cafe. Personally, I recommend the Eggs Francisco. And now to pass out.

Ran head first into the Austin Party Bus last night. Started off playing cards (losing forty bucks) before heading downtown to this place Karma and then Firehouse Lounge. These were the two last bars of the Party Bus six bar agenda and I thought we needed to pick it up a notch. So the Twin Turbo was unretired. Yes, the number was pulled down from the rafters and we promptly shat on it.

Thank God for the Party Bus or we never would've gotten been close to home. The bus still had plenty of booze on it so the drinking continued. I had a moment of clarity, however, when the bottle of vodka was passed around and I refused to partake. Twice.

It is a beautiful day out, but I'm taking my drunk ass back to bed.

Wednesday, March 16, 2005

OK, I've been feeling shitty all day, today will be a 5:01 day! I had my computer off and my jacket on when somebody game by. Didn't they see my computer's off and I had my jacket on? The nerve of some people.

From incognegro: "it's official. our VP of creative is a megalomaniac." I don't know about you, but I love megalomaniacs.

Queens of the Stone Age started slow, but the last 3/4 was awesome. I need to write a review. All in all, a good time, even with my brother getting snagged trying to get a flask in.

It is definitely a 5:01 day. Queens of the Stone Age tonight! Hopefully we can get tickets. The show is sold out, but that doesn't typically stop me.

Getting into the office early has its advantages, best being getting out of the office before six. So with I decided to do my taxes with my spare time. That's when the fun started. On neither of my computers did I have my tax information for the last two years, so I figured it had to be from either of my old work computers. Too bad one of them I now can't boot up and the other was on CD that I couldn't find. So I tried to remove the hard drive of the one to see if I could pull up the info I needed and tore my office up looking for the CD. No luck on the former (though JMVC mentioned taking it to a repair place to see if the hard drive is any good) and the later didn't have the old tax file. So, screwed again.

At least I got to see Sunday's Fox lineup. All were great, though The Simpsons was a bit off. I'm not sure if I want my animated shows mixed with menopausal and baby theft. Maybe that's just me.

I liked how King of the Hill had Smitty getting all high on himself after all the help, but you can't top Lucky pulling the redneck charm on Luanne. But a question for the masses: when the heck did Luanne move back into the Hill's house? I thought she had that phat pad with the pool?

Arrested Development just keeps on delivering. Dear Jebus it's a great show. The more I think about it, the more I'm impressed. Buster's hand chair getting the callback? That's just great storytelling. Sign the damn petition, this show must be saved!

Bubba's up in Chicago, Chilly's working in L.A., Keymaster's moved to L.A., my brother from Michigan is here in Texas, and I'm up before 7 am; the world's all turned upside down.

No wonder people pay people to do stuff because that was a pain in the ass. I think it was worth it for no other reason that it would've got at least double for some wild band of Mexicans to do that work. It isn't leveled perfected, but the sand makes all the difference in the world. I think I'll toss some edgers in there to help that out.

So a long day of real work and I'm beat. Just got out of the hot tub and I'm now going to bed.

If putting in a new patio wasn't enough work, Bubba came by and (easily) convinced me to take down the fence around my deck. Next thing you know, Bubba, my brother, and Chilly are all hauling off shit to JMVC's super truck. A mild distraction from the patio work, but even that got to a decent spot. Hopefully it'll be all done tomorrow before the rain comes early next week.

I got that HD Xbox cable just to find out Tiger Woods 2005 isn't in HD. Damn me! Well, at least Halo 2 is in HD; I'll need to check that out.

Another reorg! My old boss is now my new boss and my new boss is now my peer again. What's old is new again. We were do for a change; we had changed way back last Wednesday.

And my new old boss will have a nice transition as this all happened why she was on vaction.

Queens of the Stone Age at Stubb's is in less than a week! JMVC better track down a way to win some tickets from KROX.

Man, I hate leaving the office on a sunny day without my sunglasses. Fortunately it wasn't all that bright out so I didn't have to squint; I hate squinting.

Got the two new Xbox controllers already from that eBay purchase. Besides the cord being shorter, these are as good as the original one that came with it. Not bad for $23.

Tuesday, March 08, 2005

you don't even want to know what was behind that thing.Northwest Photography in my backyard. The previously mentioned "Sanford and Son" look of the backyard. I sort of like it. Especially the Northwest Photography sign. I don't think my brother liked dealing with numerous infestations behind the potting shed, but maybe that sign's worth the trouble.

Monday, March 07, 2005

Somebody stop me! After playing Tiger Woods 2005, I figured I needed to play it (and Halo 2) in HD. So off to eBay I went. Conveniently the guy who sold me the two controllers had the HD component cables up for auction, too. Hopefully it's not too late to save on shipping.

It is official, the Classic City Brew Fest is on. Me and neolefty are meeting up in Hotlanta with incognegro April 14 with hayhem to follow shorly after. Brewfest is on that Saturday in Athens, Georgia. Last time I was in Athens was after I had scratched my cornea back in college (those were the days that Yo! and I would party it up and find out the next day people ended up in the emergency room with blood poisoning so scratched corneas were par for the course). And I can't forget about about the invention of the Supreme Commander shot glass? How many lives were changed as a result of that last trip to Athens, I care not to guess.

And on a seperate note, how the hell can neolefty fly from San Francisco for less than my flight from the atx?

After a long strectch, my not-buying-anything-from-Best-Buy streak is over! I had to buy Tiger Woods 2005 for my brother's hard work in the back yard. Pictures to come, but the place now looks like Sanford and Son.

Now this is why eBay is great: I just bought two new controllers for the Xbox for $9.99. Now if only they can figure out this damn excessive shipping cost structure; I'm paying $13 for shipping. Just nuts.

What a day this has been: fried chicken, a Pistons' loss, the joint compound is nearly done in my bathroom, and I am all caught up on laundry. Armed with all that and the two new controllers in my future, I am off to bed.

What's better than one Arrested Development? Two episodes back-to-back, of course. And two great episodes (though the second one was a little dark). Anyway, if you haven't signed the online petition to save this show, then get the hell out of here.

Not only does the lawn look great, but my brother's going to load some of the other unsightly shit from my back yard into JMVC's truck and haul it the hell out of here. Kids will be able to roam my back yard and not need to worry about eating stray nails.

Today's assignment: try to work on my bathroom with the Pistons' game on all the while frying up some chicken. They are conveniently playing dead center in the middle of the day, the bathroom needs to be done within a couple weeks, and I'm dying to make this fried chicken recipe. So many distractions.

I kept receiving texts from incognegro throughout the night. It went from he was too old to be that drunk to being at a gay karaoke to not being scared (for the first time ever) when a white man was singing country. Along the way I got to ping neolefty about the place in San Francisco I lived, St. Francis Place. I don't know how incognegro ended up chatting up with people in Atlanta from Frisco who knew where I lived, but one never knows with that boy.

how much better a lawn can look with a little cleaningI picked the perfect day to start raking the lawn because I wasn't more than three bags into it before my lawn guys showed up to clean the place up. The place looks good for the first time in months. Those guys busted their hump around here; they must have filled 15 + industrial size compost bags (and that's on top of the thirty or so that my brother's put together). The moral of the story: always pay people to do stuff, it feels much better in the end.

Now to pressure wash my deck. If only I could pay somebody to do that...

Somebody's stepped up to the plate and defeated my brother at Scrabble. After a nice dinner at Houston's with the Bubbas (the food was very good, btw), we went back and played a couple games of the newest house game. First game went to my brother, but Mrs. Bubba drained one at the buzzer for the victory.

Well, I'm off to bed. Work needs to be done around this house some day. And I think that day is later today. And that new furniture needs to be picked up.

Some people just go home when they leave the office early, maybe go grab a beer. I probably should've done that instead of buying some more furniture at this place Rustic Rooms at 620 and 2222. This place had tons of stuff and there was this great 20-30% off sale. I got a new coffee table and wine rack. That's me, almost single handedly keeping the economy of the ATX alive and thriving. Hopefully this stuff can fit in my brother's van.

Man, I'm surprised there aren't people doing cartwheels around here. It's bonus day but people are still working. Damn them!

The Pistons' eight game winning streak is over after blowing a huge lead against Suns last night in Phoenix. I'm not all that concerned though; they've had a rough road trip. They'll still be there at the end.

I wish I had known they'd lose, though because I have an 8:30 meeting and the game didn't get over until well past midnight. Me sleepy.

A miracle beyond anything I've done recently. My brother now has a resume. Talk about making something out of nothing. It's almost palatable.

Now to watch the end of the Pistons-Suns game.

Some dude at my office was part of the Jeopardy Tournament of Champions. He was a five day champion back in 2000 and walked away with a couple Camaros. Not a bad take for a couple days work. Funny thing is I've never heard him say more than a couple words the entire time I've worked around him.

So I offered to pick up lunch for a couple people from Quiznos and then I headed out. Well, who should drive past me on the way but one of the people who I went to buy lunch for. What the hell is up with that?

Wednesday, March 02, 2005

I have to admit it, I watch The Apprentice. I'm not proud of it, but I do. Anyway, I was watching the repeat on CNBC and there was a scene of Trump rolling up through the streets to check on the team's projects. And why they did this, they played a Donald Trump rap. I kid you not. Sample words: "Trump in a stretch limousine. What's next? Huh? Trump's showin' uup! What? Trump's showin' uup!" and then something about Trump being up in your grill (or maybe I've watched PTI too much. Anyways, too funny.

Well, off to Scrabble land.

Well, the one constant in a big company is change. I just got out of a meeting in a cramped ol' room with my group and my team is getting split. I'm losing my awesome boss and whom was my boss when I first started is now again my boss. Good for her is that this reorg is all to happen before while she's on vacation (in Brazil of all places). Bad for me becauase I need to come up with all the transition stuff while she's gone.

I played Scrabble (the board game) for the first in a couple hundred years last night. And considering I didn't buy the board, it was certainly a cheap form of entertainment. Actually, my brother bought pizza. But no free dessert...

Tuesday, March 01, 2005

Holy shit it was busy around these parts yesterday. I made the mistake of going out with Bubba for lunch (to Boat House Grill, of course) and came back to insanity. I needed a document approved that hadn't even been written so I had a bunch of people, primarily myself, running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I could have seriously been to the office late last night, but I had a Filipino Knife Fighting class so I had to leave at 6:00 PM. Good thing my brother's able to entertain himself (and rake the hell out of the backyard). If only I could somehow get that bathroom in my room done then I'd turn it over to him for painting. Oh, painting.
