I'm having a lunch of spicey Doritos. That can't be good for me.
Thursday, September 29, 2005
Great little article about the dire financial straights of one of my
former home towns. Cities just can't survive without me.
Man, the place I work at is a multi-layered shit hole. I just finished some personal development plan that neither my boss nor my lead could tell me anything about. I went to a couple people on "my team" (though all in other locations and I've moved teams so many times that none of these cats know who the heck I am) and they didn't even respond to me. And then I found out from somebody in my old group that my lead should be doing this, but doesn't. For whatever reason, I don't know. Maybe I can use that excuse for not doing something later on. Anyway, I didn't need anyone to do it for me, but having a friggin clue might've helped. Finally tracked down a Michigander (another person in a remote location with nobody to commiserate with) who had figured it out. And after numerous hours of delay, I am now done. Well, I was done about twenty minutes ago, now I'm just bitching.
Go Tornados!

The CDs that Dell Support were to send me never were sent. This machine is pretty close to just getting boxed back up and sent back to Mr. Dell with a nice little bow on it.
S. Money may have the makings of a pub in his basement, but I can now get one in
my backyard. Now, if they give me free pictures of the Taj Mahal and the Pyramids I think I'll be sold.

I waited to head into the office so I could drop off some paperwork, but left that paperwork at home. But not before I stopped to drop off said paperwork. It's a good time wasting time. At least it kept me out of the office for a few more minutes.
I feel like Betty Crocker or something with this one: I made extra breakfast yesterday (eggs and bacon) for this morning and some tater tots last night. Now this morning I just nuked the eggs/tots for a few seconds before tossing them on some toasted bread in the
Griddler with the bacon and some cheese for a tasty breakfast. And in no time at all!
This is just great, I've finally rediscovered my MP3 player and it freaks out on me. And this damn machine not working ain't helping, either.

That damn Bubba hasn't returned my call. Damn you, Bubba!

This is the end of days (again!), I just bit into an apple. And I'm at the office; maybe those two things cancel each other out.
In the office before 9 am for the first time in weeks. Weeks! I may seem happy about it, but please don't think that is the case. Well, I did manage to make breakfast, too. Will miracles never cease?

Oh, me and neolefty have confirmed to head to Las Vegas Thanksgiving weekend. In order to avoid losing too much money, it'll be a Saturday through Tuesday morning thing (and this means the week in Rome is pretty much dead which makes me sad).
Maybe I'll see if anyone else wants to go.

I'm doing the most ridiculous training, the Code of Business Conduct. It's so good, I've had to take some screen shots of the idiotic questions/situations. I do know that modifying my friend's bills is wrong, though. Oh, and I shouldn't lie about being injured and then run for city council while on that disability.
Once again the going back to sleep for only an hour or so has come back to bite me. I'm beat! Just because I feel like going to sleep doesn't mean I should, does it?
Friggin cab company didn't show up so I had to take the LA people to the airport. I don't mind that so much as I mind Austin Cab screwing us. No point in trying to arrange a cab the night before if jack-ass companies don't send anyone.
And back to sleep I go.

Hula Hut's food isn't nearly as bad as I recall. Maybe it's the sweet, sweet taste of being up a bunch of points in fantasy football, but it could be the food.
Labels: fantasysports
It is God-awful warm outside. I hear talk of 105° and I believe them. I need to crank the air even colder just to compensate for all those people down at Zilker.
The shuttle service has dwindled to only two. What happened? Was service that bad? Didn't I offer enough beverages and/or entertainmetn? I can't make a business of this if business goes down. Oh well. More time for me to watch football.
And last night we checked out Gingerman (where I told somebody how I used to train greyhounds to race. WTD?) before ending up at one of Keymaster's friend's fat pad. I mean, like servant's quarters fat. Great view and lots of space. Definite party place.
Saturday, September 24, 2005
Its a bit weird knowing that a bunch of folks are all waiting for me to pick them up in a bit, like the calm before the storm. So something's going on later, just not sure what. The shuttle service was at a fever pitch today. 420 and Patches stepped in and helped out, though I think Chilly really did like sitting in the bed of Patches' SUV.
Though I've had a little bit of thoughts of going to the shows (hearing the Black Crowes yesterday might've been cool), I think I'm better off on this couch (though I'm in my office right now, but don't tell any one).

mobile post: acl fest door to door service
I'm picking up some people from this week's Austin music festival. And dropped off, too. So I'm like the nicest guy ever. Never has the world seen the like.

Everyone's taking today off for ACL fest, good for them. Let the shuttle commence!

Well, there was a bit of Trudy's and Crown and Anchor going on last night; I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up pissing away the day and not heading into the office. There was a call this morning for some sort of release that I could've been apart of, but fortunately I forgot.
Thursday, September 22, 2005
I'm getting some faux simpathy regarding the hurricane. I guess it helps when I tell people I've got three people coming up from Houston to stay with me. I think I'll blow off work most of tomorrow to show them.
Keymaster isn't here (I guess that's what I get for telling him I wouldn't be here), but I need to get to the office so I can drop a check off on the way and meet Fat Boy.
Keymaster's going to show up this morning, but I don't know when. I love excuses not to go into the office.
Wednesday, September 21, 2005
Well, my dad called up and seems to think that Rita's coming this way. Well, that'll blow with the roof not fixed. I can expect leakage, I'd imagine. Tai Chi mentioned coming up here from H-town, so maybe I'll put him up there...

So third time's the charm with Dell for them to realize there's actually a problem with my PC. I'm hoping its just software related, but they're sending me the actual CDs to update it this time. Now I'll get to wipe my hard drive again, but hopefully it'll work. Now sleep of the dead.
mobile post: Damn thing!
So I'm on my second system restore with this Dell. They're blaming the machine's inability to rip CDs on my installing Yahoo messenger. I don't think so.
Oh, shit, just remembered this strange dream. I had a watch made of meat that I misplaced and was looking for it. And even stranger, my brother called me this morning and asked if I had left my watch at his place (though not one made of meat).

Well, I watched football last night and didn't bother dealing with the new computer issue. I'll put that off for a bit, but I still didn't go to sleep early even though I was exhausted. At midnight,
Scent of a Woman came on, so I watched the first hour of that, but its kind of weird to not be exhausted and have gotten less sleep than normal. Maybe I need to stay up until 1 every night?

That Hurricane Rita better not come towards Austin, my damn roof still isn't fixed; the paperwork is signed, but the shingles I want (and the other four backups) weren't available so we're in a waiting game. Maybe Wednesday?
Everyone Loves Raymond beat
Arrested Development for Best Comedy? What the hell? I can see
Desperate Housewives winning (though I've never seen that show), but
Raymond's always blown (though I've never seen that show). The Emmy's got things right last year by awarding it to AD, but this just shows how old-school favoritism those awards are. Screw 'em!
And a new AD tonight!
Not only did I get beat in fantasy football yesterday, I got stomped. That's no good at all. Now I have to go to the office for a whole five days.

So I had some dude who ordered three drinks as soon as the flight attendant stopped by (followed by three more during the flight) and talked to his stuffed cat (not a real cat, but not much less weird). That was interesting.
JMVC picked me up and now need to get some sleep. I am tempted, however, to call up Dell as my "new" machine is acting up again. It can't rip CDs without Musicmatch freezing up.

mobile post: chock full
This flight from Minneapolis to Austin is packed and I've got a middle seat. Two hour and change of this ahead.
mobile post: flight out
Man, this airport is small, it has six gates. And it doesn't seem to be anyway near an expressway. Saginaw, Michigan, baby!
I'm glad I made plans to watch this Lions game versus actually doing stuff today. Damn them! And my fantasy team is losing. This really blows. I think we'll just head up towards Frankenmuth early and check out the outlet mall.

Well, I'm at a Kinko's in Ann Arbor trying to avoid the Michigan game traffic. The stadium isn't really near campus so that's making life easier. Me and S. Money are heading to
Red Hawk for lunch before meeting up some of my family. Should be a good way to kill a couple hours.

mobile post: as of
So after the revisionist history at Ft. Malden, we found this great Italian place called Spago's with some magnifiant food. And the 'found' part was tough as the Cannucks make some lousy maps. Food was followed by us wandering around a nearly dead Little Italy (despite an average of two bars/restaurants per block) before heading to Casino Windsor to lose a bit of the local currency. Typical gambling for me, I could've left a few times up but chose not to.

mobile post: those crazy Cannucks
At this fort in Windsor and the guide told us some story about the Americans taking terrorist action against Canada in the 1830s. He left out the part about the Canadians trying to get out from under the British yoke and individual Americans were supporting them. Very convenient.
I made some beef stir fry for a snack before sucking down a few beers and playing catch-up with S. Money. Tomorrow we're heading to Canada to check stuff out.

mobile post: done
And now I'm here. Well, I hope. I hope the Miss M. has some booze in the car.
mobile post: 'Natti airport pub crawl, part 3
I hit the third bar and then had to come to this new terminal for my flight, turns out there are two or three more bars here. I feel as though I've let you good people down.
mobile post: 'Natti airport pub crawl, part 2
This isn't so really difficult unless you change terminals. And that would only confuse the situation. On my second bar with one more to go.
mobile post: 'Natti airport pub crawl
So I've found three dollar beer and people to assist killing time. I've realized a couple things: smoke in the middle of the day isn't so bad with beer; and Notre Dame is in association with the devil.
mobile: when it rains
So my flight out of the 'Natti is cancelled. Next flight as of now is at 6:50. That'll leave plenty of time to figure out this airport. Amongst a multitude of other stuff. And I guess that means some beers.
mobile post: that's the way to start a vacation
I think I just learned to be off when you say you'll be off. Just got off a call and was lambasted. Oh, where's the bar? Damn, it's closed. Where are the traveling Lone Stars when you need them?
mobile post: chapter 11
My Northwest flight was signifiantly delayed so they put me on a Delta one instead. It's like the bankruptcy relay around here.
My dad tried to help out by calling me at 5:40, too bad I then slept through my alarm. Good thing I'm quick to get ready. Yeah, right. Good thing Chilly's not early.
It's going to be an old screw breakfast as me and Chilly hit Hacienda before going to the airport. Hopefully its still open.
Labels: chilly
I think Chilly might need to break in my house tomorrow because I'm getting a little more than three hours sleep if I go to bed right now. The good news, though, is I've half-way got my old
Rio 500 to work with my new PC. I mean, that thing was discontinued before I went up to Maryland and I had to get it off eBay. Anyway, I've got an MP3 player again. One that plays only 64 MB of internal memory, but an MP3 nonetheless.

Last of my shit list done (well, at least he stuff I can get done) and I'm out of here. Out until Sunday.
So I stopped to pick up a Code Red at the local convenience store before getting my 1/4 billion dollar lottery ticket. And this was a nice and cold one, for sure. I then hit the HEB and what was there? The damn Pepsi machine was finally fixed! What the hell have I done to deserve this kind of treatment? I tell you what, when I get my 1/4 billion I'm sacrificing that machine to some lesser god.
Tuesday, September 13, 2005
Great new machine for like twenty minutes, then I tried to copy some shit from my old machine and now I can't install any sofrware on the new machine. Applications are hanging like shirts on a line. I'm calling up Dell Support.
Sweet, it is here. Not only did I get the machine two days before I thought I would, but I got to spend most of the day home as a bonus. Now I've got to bust this bad boy out of the box and take it for a ride.
I said "screw it" and headed home to wait for the new machine. Good call on my part.
Looks like my new computer will be home when I get back from this hell hole. I guess that means I'll be going home early.

I'm going to try to make it to the office before 9 am. Key word: try.
Monday, September 12, 2005
So I headed out for some late errands before MNF. One to hit
Mozart's to get S. Money a travelling coffee mug; they were sold out. Two to get the skylights before the roofers arrived; I couldn't find the Lowe's down south and had forgotten my phone. A nice waste of an hour, that's for sure.

I'm going to be so happy to head out of here Wednesday. This place of work is a mess and not getting any better. Well, showing up at noon sure helped me get through today, though.

Am I a bad person if I'm happy that everyone at work is miserable?
Thursday, September 08, 2005
Well, I am helping the economy single-handedly. Not only am I doing the inside house work and the roof, but now I'm buying a new PC. It was too good a deal to turn down (a P4 with 512 RAM with a 19 inch flat screen for $520). It ain't anything crazy, but it'll replace the piece of shit that can't do anything in addition to surfing.
Now I've got to get back to football.
Well, well, well, a good majority of the Brazil crew might be coming out for the Colorado-Texas game in October. That could be a lot of trouble with those L.A. cats, but trouble's my first, last, and middle name.
That damn HEB hasn't fixed the Code Red machine. Why is this so infuriating me? I mean an HEB has three Coke machines out for a couple weeks? Can't somebody get on that?
I got the last of the numbers to fix up crap inside the house. I'll need to take a look and Lowes and Home Depot to figure out what exactly I'll want for the lights, faucets, etc. I'll need to borrow somebody with some taste to give me some suggestions. Between the roofer (hell, I'll need to pick out the shingles, too) and the inside stuff, it'll be a whole new place. Well, besides all the rest of the house that I'm not forking money to have fixed. And the paint jobs that I haven't completed.
Oh, the joys of blowing cash!

So the mayor of New Orleans has ordered a mandatory evacuation of the city, the governor is disputing it, the police chief is selectively enforcing it, and out-of-town police officers (in town to help out) are following the mayor's orders and evicting people from areas that have electricity. No wonder that place is fucked up.
I saw a woman at HEB that I worked with at my first job here in town. She was in the checkout whilst I was walking out. I sat next to her for five or six months and I couldn't remember her name. I guess that's her fault for not making more of an impact on my life. But I barely remember Bubba from that place.

Quote about the New Orleans Superdome: "The 70,000-seat stadium was further damaged when up to 25,000 storm survivors gathered there for days. Some of them described nightmarish conditions in the building, including assaults, rapes, murders, little food and water and overflowing toilets." Now that crazy mixture of shit to be happening.
I kept meaning to check with Chilly on the status of that new
Amy's Ice Cream on Burnet, but I drove by it today (on the way to a lunch-time cooking class) and it was still not open. I think I lived at Chilly's when that thing started, holy shit they're slow. And on their site they mention it opening this summer. Note to Amy: summer's over.

Well, the roof looks to be a done deal. The guy came by with the bottom line today and it is much better than the rest of the bottom lines. And this guy came door-to-door. Crazy.
This was really nuts, I had a dream that I was dating Pamela Anderson. That's not my typical type of dream, but I'll take it.

That Tyra Banks show looks to be the biggest piece of shit ever recorded. The commercials make me want to gag myself and those around me.
Man, almost everything in my investment accounts was up today. One would think that a hurricane might be a bit worse for the economy, but I guess not. More Hurricanes (just not of the Miami orange and green variety).
Monday, September 05, 2005
It was ugly, but FSU won! Man, I had a tough time putting an exclamation point on that bad boy. I just need like ten days of uninterrupted sleep now. I doubt that work place thing will allow that, though.

Not sure if the site's back up, but every single member of the Miami Hurricanes needs to roast in hell. And toss in all their families, too (including all of their illegitimate children). Damn them! I'm about three hours south of the atx still, , but hope to miss very little of the big game tonight. Go Noles!

I don't know what's going on, but there are butterflies coming out of their cocoons and right onto my car. Damn butterflies!
mobile post: rumor has it
that my site is down because of damn Katrina. Will her carnage never end?
And away I go! To Padre, that is. I think its South Padre Island, but that would involve me having done some prep work. I'm barely getting out of here on time, but it shoudl be fun to get out of here for a bit.

I've done nearly nothing to prepare for this trip tomorrow morning. I think I'll throw my cooking supplies in the car now and be done with that at least. Supposed to be there at the meeting spot by 9:30, but we'll see how that works out. Good reason to volunteer to drive, you show up when you want to.
There are Ronald Reagan stamps!
Good to see that the people of New Orleans are shooting at military helicopters. I guess they think they're insurgents or something because the last time I checked anything that's flying down there is trying to help out. Real smart folks down there. That's probably the reason they didn't leave when they were told to evacuate. They're crawling through the water and much for a reason.
