Re: merry Halloween, bitches!

So going out for a quick drink turned into dd duty taking folks to sixth. Haven't I learned? At least craziness will be happening down there.

Goodness gracious, stuff is done at my house! Showers all around! New lights (well, new old lights). Thank Zeus for that handyman.

mobile post: never give blood on Halloween

I got out of work early and figured I'd drop off some of my blood. Who would've thought there would be such a back up? I've never had such a back up here before. I guess it is a good day for a blood drive.

So I was assinged three projects a couple weeks ago: one was deffered (mentioned earlier today), and one I was running around trying to figure what needed to be done. Well, that one was already done. What a well oiled machine I've got over here. Good thing I didn't really do all that much about it.

One of these new projects I got has been postponed until February 22 of next year. That's much for feasible than December 10, for sure.

My dreams have come true and there is an Office Space special edition DVD coming out. Not only is it in the pipe, it is coming out tomorrow!

I had to drop Chilly off at the airport, but I somehow woke up at 8 am (or was it 9 am before the adjusted time? That always confuses me). Well, I got started putting another coat of paint in my bathroom when I thought it was time to meet up with Chilly. Turns out I still had another 45 minutes to put some more down. Progress, progress, progress.

Now off to pick him up and try out the Omelettry. Always wanted to check that place out (and a recommendation from Patches and 420 couldn't hurt). And if its a free meal its got to be good!

Glorious sleep! Went to bed at 1 and got up at 11. Seems like the first time I've slept in on a Saturday in weeks. Glorious!

And it looks like the wine tasting next weekend will be at least in the mid 20s. Get ready for double letter wine sampling!

Enough of the fun, off to do some stuff around the house.

Friday, October 28, 2005

Well, this is a kick in the nuts: I've been waiting on my handy man to finish up some jobs so he could do the counters in my bathrooms. Well, it turns out he'll have to order the counters and those will take at least a week to show up. So much for having those complete by next weekend's festivities.

No plans on the horizon for this weekend but working on the house. I'm heading out of here in a few minutes to meet up with the handy man for some of the non-me fixes. Hopefully it'll be quiet around work and I can start actually doing some stuff (as opposed to the rearranging crap approach I've taken thus far).

Thursday, October 27, 2005

The problem with using my phone as an alarm is that there is an easy way to just turn it off. Well, I've avoided that problem for a while now, but today. I had planned on getting up early, making some breakfast, folding some laundry, but I turned the alarm off. So I might want to look into getting a real alarm one of these days (well, maybe bringing one of the countless ones laying around my house into my bedroom).

I did make it into the office before 9:30, which is always remarkable these days.

I hate sweeps!

Great, just great. I've got this conference scheduled from 11 to 3:30 with about 15 people on it. Pretty big meeting and right when it starts one of the main participants says she's got to go to another call. So we've got to postpone for an hour. Friggin people.

I guess I'll go back to talking about shoes with incognegro.

The shoes i have today need new laces and also are a bit uncomfortable until they are worn for a few minutes. These go in the "maybe" pile, too.

Dear Zeus, I waited up watching this damn baseball game just to see Chicago win. Not that I really care either way, but unless my team is involved I hate sweeps. Maybe Houston can win tomorrow. Big Maybe.

And I don't want to get into baseball analyst mode, but I knew that Houston was done for with all those runners left on base in the extra innings. You can't leave that many stranded ducks at home, it just gives the road team more chances.

Tuesday, October 25, 2005

My parents made it back to their place and their condo proper is fine, but their complex is a bit f'd up. They're on generator power (which my dad is using for the fridge and computer), but the biggest issue is the air conditioning unit for the building is busted. I guess better now than in August, but still. Damn hurricanes!

I heard some noise in my backyard and when I looked back there, a raccoon was getting out of my pool. So I figure, I'll chase this guy out of my back yard. Well, it wasn't that easy. That thing didn't want to leave. Light didn't seem to bother it, throwing things didn't deter it. He left when the water hose was turned on. Listen up, it ain't just for convicts anymore.

These shoes I'm wearing today are comfy, but they squeak too much. I think they'll go in the donate pile.

I've come up with a plan for all my newly rediscovered shoes: weat them! I've got about a dozen pairs of shoes (excluding tennis shoes, deck shoes, and/or sandals) and three pairs of boots, so I figure I'll try them out. If they blow, they get tossed out or given away. Now I'm cooking.

So I stopped at the Container Store to pick up a shoe rack for my closet kit and ended up getting some new shelves then pretty much reworking the whole left side. Now I've busted out all my shoes into one closet (I'm got my eye on you Imelda Marcos!) and busted out my previous suitcased ties. Now I've moved a coffee table from a closet out into one of the empty rooms. So next time you visit, there's a coffee table alone in a room waiting for some company.

I don't know what it is, but the site has not been getting updated. Not sure if its me being wiped out from too much of doing nothing or I'm saving up my writing energy for NaNoWriMo. Not sure. The weekend was not nearly long enough. I need to start using those vacation days that were to be my trip to a) hockey trip to Alberta, or b) a week in Rome, but I think it'll end up being the ever-present option c) sit on my ass at my house. c) is underrated, that's for sure.

So since I think I'm doing some stuff before the party next Saturday. I've asked neolefty to bother me/remind me about doing shit around the place. Some projects that have been postponed/lazed off will put on the list (or is it off the list?). The entryway finished and finish (!) repainting my bathroom. Some way, some how.

Oh, and smoke some crack.

TV sucks tonight. Damn baseball is on and no football. Though football would just blow, anyway; my fantasy team got CRUSHED and the Joey Harrington era is officially over in Detroit (so I've got another jersey of a player that is a dud). At least I've got another steak sammich tonight.

Oh man, the only thing getting me out of the house is the shitty, shitty games on TV. Long day yesterday. Woke up at 7:30 to theorectically go with The Saw to see ESPN Gameday then tailgate, but really just gave him stuff. Then I went back to bed and ended up getting to the tailgate around 1, which was fine with me as I was still a bit rough from Friday night. Coming home to cook up a steak doesn't really help going to bed and getting up early, that's for sure.

But then we hung out after the Texas victory on the top of a parking garage with some new friends. People were kind enough to invite us to watch baseball and drink beers with them. Too bad they didn't realized what they unleashed. It was pretty normal stuff, but they thought we were crazy. So what if we put a bit of lighter fluid and pieces of oak in their grill producing a smoke trail hundreds of feet high. That's not crazy, that's cooking.

Friday, October 21, 2005

OK, I've officially pushed out the party another week. Too much stuff going on next week and I'm hoping to get some work done on the house in the interim.

Well, I'm heading with The Saw for another Texas game. I think I figured out an easier way to tailgate: bring food wrapped in tin foil ready to warm up.

Thursday, October 20, 2005

To end a conference call:
Me: "I'll let you all go, unless somebody has some parting words of wisdom."
Person 1: " usually good for some, ?"
Person 2: "Well, if you're ever falling off the Sears tower, go limp. Why? Because somebody might catch you. Why? 'Free dummy.'"

Those are a few seconds I won't get back.

Well, I decided to be like most people and actually go to the office. I haven't had the slightest thought to thrashing anyone. So far, so good.

mobile post: chock full

This should be interesting. I love this band and am jacked up (to see them), but my buddy doesn't even know the band; he's just happy to be out of the house. Well, only another hour of drinking before the concert.

Fantasy football is like crack. My team is up by less than a point with a lot of time for Indy to put up more points. Anything from Indy's kicker puts me down with tool little time to score. If I escape this with scoring barely over 50 points, it'll be a miracle.

Oh, I don't care all that much about baseball, but Albert Pujols hit a home run the likes I've never seen before. Just crazy.

Yeah, the guys have left and I am officially taking today off. I'm heading to bed for as much sleep as humanly possible. No sense in rushing myself back into that work thing when I still have ten days of vacation to kill.

mobile post: this should be interestion

So I'm at Hulla Hut and I definitely should've worn short sleeves. Hot as heck. I guess I should err on the side of caution in this town. Waiting for the weekend extermination crew to arrive, should be a good time.

OK, it is on. As one of the last acts as a sober man, I've set up the 2nd Annual Wine Tasting party for two weeks from today. And now I am done with this work thing and need to head to Hula Hut

Just rolled in the office and I need to leave by around 3, so this is going to be a good day. Also, I don't really feel like eating what I brought in for lunch, so I might get two or three hours of actual time at the office.

Thursday, October 13, 2005

There aren't many guarantees in life, but I think this is one of them: me getting some Florida State paraphernalia a couple days before a winnable road game is not a good sign. I might need to sacrifice a goat or something to offset it. At least I have a nice new laynard and license plate.

I think the place is in decent shape this weekend's company. There will likely be full occupany and we might even have somebody stay in the office. Unheard of!

All this arranging stuff has made it very convenient to not go to the office. I guess I still need to make it in there...

Wednesday, October 12, 2005

With my Palm Pilot acting up (again), I'm thinking of getting something new. I just wasn't sure what to consider until I saw details of the new iPod. Apparently it can now synch with Outlook so I might have a reason to blow a few hundred on a PDA and an MP3 player. Like I really needed a reason to blow money, though it would be nice to find a reason to not piss it away.

Looks like this is the year of Darko!

Tuesday, October 11, 2005

And for some reason I am still at the office, but I am planning the next wine tasting party at my place. Trying to figure out if too much is ever too much. I do realize I need to get the heck out of the office, though.

JMVC supposedly has a kitchen pass tomorrow night. I don't do much mid-week anymore, but I'm signed up for some brews tomorrow. Maybe this late work today will make that less painful...

I made it into the office before 9 for the first time in weeks, if not months, but I'm back skating in near 9:30 again.

Monday, October 10, 2005

Oh, victory in fantasy football! Antonio Gates is the man. Oh, and the Yankees lost, what a great night!

Labels:

I made a bratwurst casserole for dinner (with lots leftover). I took a Rachael Ray recipe and substituted the type of beer, cheese and used bratwurst instead (and some Rudy's). I had some concerns about it (well, with beer with milk I think you might, too), but it turned out pretty decent. Well, with bratwurst, onions, cheese and beer, how could you go wrong?

A nice 10 minute nap and I'm ready for some football! Man, I feel stupid saying that. I need just a bit out of Antonio Gates to put me ahead in my fantasy football game.

Oh, can't forget I can root against the Yankees, too! Good night for all!

If I've learned anything it's that going to bed for only a couple hours is bad. Well, bad if I really cared about work, but today I sorta need to make it to the office. So I'll be up, but I'll be dragging for sure.

Oh, I'm glad that the rain woke me up so I can be reminded of my stupid roof still needing to be fixed. That damn construction company's fallen off the face of the earth. Last I heard from them they were waiting on the shingles I had wanted and that was a couple weeks ago. Last message I left them was on Friday; I told them to get back with my by the end of the day or I'd contact the Better Business Bureau. So I'll be calling the BBB up today, but the real fun is now I get to go through the whole process all over again. Well, I can call the folks I had contacted before, but because of all the stupid hurricanes I can count on the prices to have gone up.

Sunday, October 09, 2005

The Lions are 500, but that's good enough to lead that shitty division of their's. Let's just hope they keep it up.

Oh, and I was able to watch the game curteosy of Antonio's on 183 and I-35; they've got all the games on!

Saturday, October 08, 2005

Well, FSU and Texas won. Too bad Michigan f'd up against Minnesota. First time Michigan's lost to them in 16 years. And I thought the losing streak Texas had against those dirty, dirty Sooners was bad. Well, a day of streaks ended. Let's just hope there's no streaking.

Well, I must get back to my drinking.

Friday, October 07, 2005

I love conference calls that start at 5:00 pm on Friday. Even better are ones that I get 20 minutes notice for. And ones that last two hours and a half hours. At least I could've gotten some notice so I could've gone home.

A buddy from the Chicago office is heading to the Lions-Bears game on October 31. Sounds like he's not going to the game and instead will focus that saved money on booze. I recommended the Old Shillelagh for the drinking and Parthenon for great Greek food. Flaming cheese!

That QOTSA show still isn't sold out. Emo's is a glorified shoe box, I can't believe its not sold out. Shocking, shocking!

And tomorrow's going to have a high of 81°? And a low of 58°. Weird, weather.

What the hell, it's like 55° outside. I won't be able to use my pool now. My pool, my precious pool!

Thursday, October 06, 2005

Well, J.J. Abrams is batting a thousand. Now Alias is a piece of shit, too. It's definitely one of those situations you can see from the outside: removing regulars from past seasons and replacing them with younger, prettier versions (and I'd imagine, cheaper). Well, this is slightly different because Jennifer Garner is pregnant, but the rest is pretty much the same. Unlike, Lost, though, I'm not giving this another episode to win me back. I'm done.

Maybe I'll still bitter that Garner could be dumb enough to not only get involved with Ben Affleck, but being pregnant with his child. And don't get me started about the whole getting knocked-up-when-single thing, either. I'd have thought the rich could afford a jimmy cap or the pill? People, oh, people.

Some time back, The Saw had a crazy experience with some friends up at this bar, Graham Central Station. Somehow a friend of his got loaded and wanted to get some air. So they headed outside, but, for some reason, the bouncers thought she was leaving in her own car. Even though, as The Saw put it, there was no place to put keys with what she was wearing. Long story short, she ended up cuffed, he complained and we've got a limo driving us as compensation (for the pain and suffering, I guess) November 4. He just sent an email confirming it today. Something to look forward to, for sure.

Queens of the Stone Age is coming back to Austin (10/18/05 for those interested). So hot is this news that it isn't even on their site yet. They're playing at Emo's of all places. Some band named Dressy Bessy cancelled and QOTSA picked it up. From their site, looks like they're in Dallas on the Monday and Houston on Wednesday so might as well hit Austin for the second time, right? JMVC better not have his dead ass doing anything that night because I got him a ticket. Thank God for the distraction of iTunes!

I don't know what J.J. Abrams and company are doing, but Lost is going down the friggin toilet right before my eyes. In case I haven't admitted it before, I turned into that first episode last year and have loyally rooted it on (well, secretly) ever since. The show was great because it built up so much, maybe it was doomed. I didn't get involved with the X-Files from the beginning, but I would assume that building up secrets without any sort of resolution becomes frustrating for viewers. As a result, Lost is trying to avoid that by giving us some answers. Well, maybe they should rethink that.

This season the producers promised answers in the first few shows (but for ever answer, there was going to be all new questions!). Let me tell you something about answers, if they're shitty, we'd pretty not getting an answer at all. They were pushing the limits of believability before and now I think they've crossed it. I'll give it a couple more weeks before I cleave it from my diet.

And why am I not putting this in the reviews section?

Tuesday, October 04, 2005

Well, tv might suck, but the computer's a time killer. This internet thing sure is a lot different with a computer that is capable of loading web content under 3 minutes and that doesn't just reboot occasionally.

I've loaded all my music on the new machine (yes, Dell sent the XP CD's and the fix seems to be working) and imported them all into iTunes (per birthday boy incognegro's suggestion. I am a bit unsure if I like how iTunes has redone all my song direcories, but I'll give it some time to settle in). Then I found myself browsing online music tonight tempted way too much by these 99¢ songs. I see a lot of money being spent and countless hours wasted. And I guess I'll need to avoid working from home so I can actually not get fired. I'll need the cash to pay for the online music.

What a shitty of night of television Tuesday is. Maybe that's just in comparison to all the great shows of Sunday and Monday. Perhaps it is too much for any show to follow the likes of The Simpsons, what is probably the last season of King of the Hill, HBO's Rome, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Extras, and then Monday's Arrested Development, Monday Night Football, and the eye-candy of Vegas. Well, Tuesday does have the American version of The Office, which I'm growing fond of but that's it. The rest of Tuesday is a load of shit. I'd be better of making my own show of puppets and aluminum cans in the backyard. And maybe an underwater pirate. Arrr!

Nicolas Cage is officially the stupiest parent in history. That jackass. He's better off just beating the child himself.

Will wonder's never cease? It's incognegro's birthday. He's catching up to me.

Monday, October 03, 2005

Oh, Charles Rogers. Can't you keep the chronic just for the off season? I know your shoulder's been screwed up, and you've been complaining about playing time, but is smoking dope during the season isn't a way to do it. And I wouldn't typically care, but this is one of S. Money's mom's former students. You're not making Mid-Michigan proud, Mr. Rogers.

So I've got another apple to snack on today. Three in less than two weeks, I'm on quite a streak. The question is, though, if an apple a day will keep the doctor away what will a bite or two do? Eating a whole apple just seems so exhausting.

Sunday, October 02, 2005

I checked my work email and have one from my boss requesting my salary, social security number, home/cell phone numbers, and my work hours. Why don't I just send her a my passport and couple of my account numbers, too?

Well, another shitty fantasy football day. Only difference is today I good only root on my players during the early games (literly, all my players had the 1:00 PM ET starts). I was up with a comfortable margin before the Giants let Tiki Barber run up the score late. Then I had a slim margin going into the Philly game and this L.J. Smith guy screwed me. Well, the defense of Kansas City pretty much screwed me. Damn you!

So I had this dream that my oldest brother and I were going to Red Wings game but stopped to get some food at a restaurant at Michigan Stadium. This restaurant was at the top of the stadium. Now this is odd because there isn't a restaurant up there and Ann Arbor is about 30 minutes from downtown Detroit where the Wings play. It was really nice, though, it had a nice veranda that hung over the stadium and would've been great place to watch a game. Too bad and they wouldn't seat us, even though we had reservations.

I'm playing some MP3s and just keep clicking ahead to the next song, nothing that I want to hear. Now I know how incognegro feels.

Saturday, October 01, 2005

I had hoped to sneak into this Chinese cooking class down at Central Market, but there was no room in the inn. Instead I had to wander around and spend money on food. I guess it is better this way, I get to run the errands I had postponed because of laziness and football. BTW, the Gaytors suck!

Oh, and I think I've shut up Bubba for a while. I picked up some Diet Coke for his sorrow ass to drink when he visits. Even the kind with that cancer cause in the make, Splenda. You know, I wonder if he could've just picked up a 12 pack himself considering he's the only person who drinks the stuff.

Rarely do I go to a bar that I haven't been to before, even rarer to a part of town in a part of town I don't go to. Well, last night I hit Carousel Lounge and it didn't hit back. I think it'd be good for an occasional visit to show the out of town guests, but not for regular appearances.
