I sent off a reminder about the party on Sunday and one of my coworkers made a blaphemous comment about there being rain that day. I immediately gave her the evil eye and cast her out. Now I just need to cast myself out of the office.

I've decided on cooking another brisket for the party on Sunday. Sure be better with a more dependable oven on my side.

I did a bit of rearranging and I've discovered something horrible: this chair I bought doesn't fit where I thought it would. Back to square one.

I stopped by for a couple Guinness on the way back from work, but that's not going to stop me from heading down to Town Lake for a jog in a bit. I hope it doesn't work out because that could establish a dangerous precedent.

I slept in past 8 for the first time during the week in forever. That felt pretty good, but now I'm running behind.

The house is almost back to a state of disrepair (as opposed to the dump it had been). I need to do some more cleaning out of the storage room, but the kid's room is pretty much done.

And Bubba's chicken fried chicken is out of my fridge so there's less temptation to steal.

The damn machine upstairs has Code Red! I can't believe it! And for only one American dollar.

I had a dream that me and Winston were driving around and decided to go get haircuts. It seemed to be in an area similar to Orlando, but we weren't on vacation or anything. Or so it seemed.

I got some prep work done for this weekend's party. Well, organizing of stuff and getting ready to toss shit out. Sunday's only right around the corner.

And I finally finished that Julian book. Maybe that'll get me to sleep before past midnight.

I didn't realize that the Tigers are on. And they should be through Wednesday, which is good for me because there isn't jack nor shite on tv.

Good lord, my workplace is a mess. I need to put the resume back together. Or win the lottery. But at least I'm at home and the air conditioner is pumping cool(er) air. Freon, baby!

At least this week's not starting off at 4:15. But 6:05 ain't much better. Chilly and I are going for a jog and I need to finish organizing these towels.

I'm trying to determine what towels are good enough and which should go to our friends at some random charity (or the trash can). Exciting evening around here, for sure.

A wonderful night of eight hour sleep. I think the key is starting off sleeping in the hammock for a couple of hours before getting the real sleep in my bed.

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

A few minutes can make all the difference: I left for the office right around 8:35 and the traffic was so backed up that I couldn't see myself getting there by 9 so I had to abort and head home. If it had been 8:30, it would've been clear saying.

Tuesday, June 20, 2006

Another day up before 7 am. At least today it wasn't 4:30, but 7 am ain't getting any later.

Monday, June 19, 2006

Well, Edmonton blew it and now the Carolina Hurricanes skate with the Stanley Cup. I really didn't care that much either way, but I had hope for Edmonton to win because my brother (yet another of them) had made a bet that Edmonton would win. I think he got something like 25 to 1 so he wouldn't go some decent cash. Oh well. It was a good series, what I saw of it. I should be happy that hockey's back, but I still would've liked to have seen the Red Wings in the Finals. Not to sound like a broken bell, but Oh Well.

So they've done another reorg and I'm on my 8th combination of bosses in less than two years. And the joy of it is that I've continued to do the exact same work. Funny place. But I'm not laughing all that much. Though I am laughing as I'm typing this so I'm sometimes laughing.

Yet I am still somehow only leaving about 10 minutes early to work.

I went to bed past midnight but woke up at 4:30 and couldn't fall back to sleep. Man, this is going to be a long week.

Here's a nice shot of 420, Mac, and me from last night. Mac shoots almost as many pictures as I did in my hayday.

We hit this place called Vicci and it wasn't nearly as horrible as I would've thought. Yes, it was impossible to carry on a conversation without screaming in everyone's ear, but I got to see people I hadn't seen in a while so that's the price you have to pay. Though the unisex bathrooms need to go.

Get my first chance to watch the Tigers (they're playing the Cubs and the game is on WGN) and they're absolutely killing the Cubs. Six runs in the first inning alone. Hopefully those runs will hold up.

I do not want to leave the couch. Ended up having people over (for the second night in a row) for some food and drinks after the bars closed down. I think I can thank the food for my lack of hangover today, though.

Bubba and I headed towards San Marcos to check out Gruene and the outlet mall, but the weather turned nice (it had rained all morning) so we went tubing, too. It's a much quicker trip than heading down to New Braunfels for a six hour trip down the river. Though maybe I would've know down there to wear some sun screen. I didn't wear any and am now a lobster.

And before the river, we stumbled onto a a barbeque contest. We couldn't get anyone to give us samples so we tried to become judges to no avail. Damn tempation!

As for tonight, I'm making up for my missing put putt yesterday by going with a pseduo buddy from work for some more. Then I'm supposed to meet up with Mac's pre-wedding party and maybe with The Closer. Way busier weekend than I had planned. Maybe tomorrow I'll get some stuff done around the house.

mobile post: no need for trips

I looked all over Guatemala for a mortar and pestle and I found this one down at the outlet mall. If only they had Mayan ruins I could've saved myself 10 days.

I think I just called Bubba to head down south even though it's still raining. The plan was to go tubing but maybe it's just now to get out of town for a bit. At least I hope he gives me a couple hours to sober up.

Well, so much for a quiet night. I met up for the Brewer's birthday party at the putt putt place and several dozen beers later we ended up hanging out at my place. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to feel so good tomorrow. Or as they call it most places: a few hours.

OK, a work happy hour can be potential trouble. I just got home and need to take a nap or something. Me and one of my coworkers were talking and she kept telling me over and over to get the hell out of my company. That kept us there an extra hour as it was. She's near retirement but that old broad can drink some beers.

Work blows, I'm leaving to go get beers. It's the Brewer's birthday so I just need to be at the putt putt course by 10 pm. I can't get into too much trouble at a work happy hour, I don't think.

I was about to leave when I heard something on the roof. I looked through the skylight and it was rain. Rain! I don't think this place has seen rain in weeks. Anyway, I had to rush outside and save my hammock from the wetness. The hammock must be safe at all times.

So much for getting up early. I slept past my alarm and have barely dragged myself out of bed. It was a good run, though.

Thursday, June 15, 2006

And on the theme of money, I went and got my three free credit reports (you're entitled to one from three different companies once a year) and decided to pay to get my credit score. It's so good I might go buy another house.

OK, I'm running some errands, this day's going to slow for me.

Well, I actually have something paid for: my car. All mine as of today. I think I'll go get blasted and drive it into a wall just because I can.

I got on the phone late last night with neolefty and ended up not getting to bed until past midnight. One might thing that would stop by consecutive string of getting up early but it was not to be. And I have my trusty hammock nap to thank for it. Now if only I can get into the office before 9 again. Did I just type that?

I had a nice nap in my hammock interrupted by bill collectors. Damn them! But those forty minutes were shear bliss. The swaying and the breeze. And don't get me started on the shade.

I got into the office well before 9 am, but then realized my bug guy was supposed to stop by my house at 9 am. I guess there's a price for the small victories in life.

This could be a big day: in the office before 9 am. I guess this typing doesn't help, but I'm pretty much shoes-on-my-feet away from getting out the door.

The hammock is up, the lawn is cleaned up, the pool is blue, it is officially summer. I don't care what the groundhog says.

There's a huge accident that's closed down the road into my office so somebody's loss (of life in this case) let's me get some laundry done. Is that wrong? Would I be pushing it if I jumped in the pool?

A sampling of some pictures from the trip. I'll one of these days put a whole bunch more up, but these will have to do for a bit.

Up by 6:15 and home before 6, those are the kind of hours I like. First day back at work wasn't as horrible as I would've thought. Dare I say, I was actually in a good mood there. Maybe because 4th of July isn't all that far away...

Something wrong here, I get up at 6:15 and still am just leaving for work.

Sunday, June 11, 2006

I've had one lazy ass day. I think I went to bed around 10 last night, woke up at 2:30, went back to bed and woke up at 10:30. That's some good sleep. Now I'm just watching TV and taking dips in the pool. I can't really complain.

Saturday, June 10, 2006

Mrs. Bubba got at my guest bath when I was gone. I think I'll start using this one and forget about mine.

And a couple more, these with my better camera. The color is a little more clear in this one. It definitely isn't pink.

Here are a couple pics of the before. You can't really make out how bad it was, but it was. Well, maybe the wallpaper gives away the shittiness.

Still trying to get all caught up from the trip and Bubba is coming over to hit Mother Egan's for some World Cup action. That's an excuse to sit in Irish pubs all day and drink Guinness, if you didn't know.

OK, I'm back home from Guatemala. I'm sent some pics I had in my phone to the site, but I'm in no condition (dead tired, not stone drunk this time) to fix them. Off to a nap, shower, and then to Aces' wedding.

Me and my adorable niece. I would be smiling but she's strangling me.

Some shots around Guatemala City. Here is some third world work going on. Those picks and shovels are so 20th century. You can't see the mules pulling the asphalt.

Here are some well taken care of local signs. You can't really make it out, but there's grass growing on them. And this is a main shopping area of town. Have some self respect, people. Pull those weeds.

This is in the main underground market. Stuff was so cheap I really would've liked to have taken a baseball bat to the place and drop a $50 bill and still gotten change.

Another from Tikal. Yes, I did some walking that day.

One of many from Tikal.

OK, I'm back from Guatemala. I have a ton of pictures, but took some on my phone to make sure people could get access to them sooner.

Here come a few from Tikal. Tikal's home to some of the most famous of the Mayan ruins. This is from the top of Templo #5, which is the most recently uncovered temple. Crazy stairs to get to the top. I was literally shaking when I got to the top. Or maybe that was my brother threatening to toss me back down the steps...
