Well, Chilly came by earlier tonight. Funny, hadn't seen the guy in weeks; I don't know how he's survived. Let's see, it should be an interestingly busy week at work, especially with my friend coming back to town Wednesday. Cutting out early again. Gots to love that.

What's up with people in California dying of the heat? Have the good people of California turned French?
Friday, July 28, 2006
Man, just got back from a lame after-work happy hour. One of the guys is leaving for greener pastures was we all got together and it was just draining. And there was some sort of cluster on the way home and it took me nearly 30 minutes where it should've taken 20. Oh well, I think I'll take a nap and call it a night.

I was heading out to help The Saw do some moving and noticed I had a package outside my front door. It was a package from Jager that was bound up with tape something fierce. I hacked it open and it was some books and shot glasses. The books were from my days when I used to actually do development work and have no idea what Jager was doing with them. And the shot glasses? Well, Lord knows I don't need any more of those things, but they'll get cycled to the front of the rotation.

incognegro's got a lot of jeans.
My Cingular MMS messages to the site haven't been going through. I know it's supposed to work (and did about a week ago), but don't know who to complain to. MMS goes through, but Blogger just ain't picking them up. I doubt Blogger's got a number laying around for me to call at and bitch, eh?

As surely as the sun sets in the West, the French are dying because of the heat. Maybe somebody should open up an air conditioner store over there.
I've come to a major decision: I'm going to reconfigure the songs on my ipod. This will be the first major reshuffling since I got it.

I came home from this conference with Bubba and ready to eat something. So I figured a little avocado would be in order, but both of the ones I had were bad. I need some lessons in how to pick the perfect avocado.

I love working from home. I got up later than normal, met up with my friend for lunch and got just about as much work done as I would've got done at home. So far anyway. Now I just need a nap to recover from the huge buffalo meatloaf I got from Moonshine.

I've got a friend coming into town this afternoon so I'll be cutting out of work early. That's the way to start off your week. Almost enough for me to head into work early or somewhat close to on time.

Crazy thing about getting up at 6 am on a Sunday is that you've got a whole lot of a day to spend doing things. I watched a triathalon then slept for a couple hours until Sunday night TV kicked in. That's Sunday, baby!
Well, Bubba's done; he got done in about an hour and forty-five minutes which is pretty good considering they added four miles he didn't know about to the bike portion. Now I've got to scarf some free food down my gullet so we can get out of here and have some Guinness.
mobile post: nice day to be up at 6 am
Here's me waiting for Bubba to finish his triathalon thingy. I decided to wait on Bubba before I cracked open my beer. I don't know why.Labels: bubba
So Bubba's out of the water and well on his way on the bike. I'm waiting to crack my beer, but I think I'll wait for him to start on his run. I really should've brought more beer.

I'm heading down with Bubba to help him with this half triathalon he's running. I'm not sure how much help I'll be considering I've got a cooler with beers to drink while reading a book. Though he does have a video camera to record the event so maybe I'll have some fun making fun of people. That's helping somebody.

I got a call from Chilly asking what food's good at Comerica Park. He's on a whirlwind two day/three baseball field weekend and the Tigers-A's game was the middle chapter. Hopefully he gets me a program, but I'll forgive him if he doesn't.

Man, I'm stuffed! I volunteered for the Chinese class tonight and the instructor made such good food it was almost ridiculous. But very good. If any Chinese restaraunt made this kind of food, I'd be there every night.
Ok, I'm heading out to find Flashman.

I've got this Chinese cooking class today so I'm heading out early. Woo hoo!

They've taken rotting railway ties. These people are carnivores.

Well, the Tigers got beat tonight. Oh well, they've got a couple other games to beat the White Sox.
I should've taken pictures of the curb. No, not the one that nearly took my precious life. I'm talking about the one in front of my house where I've got a bunch of shite out for pickup. It's the twice yearly bulky collection period. That's when you put your blown out mattresses and appliances that can't quite contain the stench of dead animals anymore. I'm sure that have this other places.
Anyway, this garbage usually brings out the white trash in people and everyday there's less and less shit and people come out to pick through items. The one that really surprises me is this crappy table base. Maybe somebody will melt it down to make bullets.

Something happened this morning that's never happened before: I woke up on a different side of the bed than I went to sleep on. Exciting times in Austin are ahead.

I think I've spent over twenty hours on the couch this weekend. I'm trying to make up for it now by making a ton of food. For what that's worth.
Thursday, July 13, 2006
I'm wiped out. I think I need to forced myself to get to bed by 10 or something. I'm getting OLD.

Well, it doesnt look as pretty as it did yesterday, but still the herbed polenta with red peppers sure tastes good. And the stuffed pork chop doesn't hurt, either. I broke down and actually bought the pork chop, but how can you turn down two chops for under $3.50?Monday, July 10, 2006
I was wiped out all day and now am still up near midnight. Having Entourage (btw, I was wrong a couple weeks ago when I said there isn't anything on TV now. Entourage is great as is Rescue Me) sitting on tape didn't help. But at least I've got lunches made for a few days. Herbed polenta is good with pork and brisket, btw.

I had bought some cole slaw for the party and never used it, so figured WTF, I'll make some cole slaw. The recipe called for mayonnaise, but I substituted horseradish mustard and some chipotle aioli. But the real secret is the tasty corn. In case you want to make it at home:- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup sugar
1/8 cup chipotle aioli
1/8 cup horseradish mustard (or substitute with your own brand of spicy mustard)
half a cob of corn decorned of its kernels (yes I used the word cob and corn in the same sentence!)
ground black pepper to taste
Combine the sugar with vinegar in a bowl. Stir until the sugar dissolves then add black pepper. In a separate bowl, combine aioli/mustard. Now pour the vinegar/sugar combo into the aioli/mustard and whisk together. Now dirty a third bowl and toss with the corn and cole slaw mix (I used Fresh Express Angel Hair).
If you want to get really fancy, I cooked my corn up in a fry pan just to bring a bit of life back into them. If I do it again, I'll get some more colorful cole slaw mix or buy some red cabbage. But that's just me talking crazy.

Man, I do not want to go to the office. I think that would've been apparent by me being out until 1:30. But how often do you get to hang out with JMVC, The Saw and the Brewer down near campus? I am the foosball champion of the world. Or at least at Showdown Saloon.

I was really pretty ambivalent towards this World Cup final, but then I saw that French dude headbutt the guy on the other team and gained a modicum of interest. Just a modicum.
And I celebrated the Italian victory by eating some meatballs and vacuuming my pool. I'm hoping that the most exciting thing I do for a while.

I can't tell you how great it was to wake up with nothing to do and no guests to entertain (and no heavy drinking in the cards). I think I'm going to lay around on my ass and maybe clean up the carnage that is my place.

Long day tubing on the river to be followed with some brisket over at the Bubba's. Tai Chi is heading out and I need detox or a two step program. Something, anything. Oh, and some long periods of sober sleep.

So I blew off work yesterday and my reward was more work. Apparenty these folks think I'm more compentent than nearly everyone else around here. What does a guy have to do to get fired around here?
I need to take a nap before going out drinking.
I need to take a nap before going out drinking.
OK, calling in sick yesterday and then going out until midnight wasn't the best of ideas. At least I got up early for a little jog. Regardless, today's going to be rough as I've got a lot of work to catch up on. Heck, I might not even go out tonight.
Thursday, July 06, 2006
I've decided it best for me to not go into the office today. I don't want to vomit over anyone. Back to sleep for me.

I was too drunk and stupid yesterday to realize Steve Yzerman officially retired and Ben Wallace left the Pistons. I'm glad I'm half drunk still. God bless America!

I'm really wiped out. You'd almost think man wasn't meant to drink all day in the hot sun. Thai Chi and I left before the rest of the group, but that didn't stop us from using the emergency brake to scare some shoppers at the outlet mall. And me shotgunning beers in the same outlet mall parking lot must've impressed somebody. But I did end up only buying a new saucepan (and it's got a cover that's a nonstick skillet!). That's a picture with my other Le Creuset.
A now I pass out and pray for death.

The party was a good time; anytime we end up with drinking Jenga it's a good time. Oh, and the brisket turned out ok, but it's all gone! Not a ton of leftover brisket for me, but plenty of party mix to take on the Comal. And a beer or twenty. So now it's time to go tubing.

Well, the shit has hit the fan. I woke up to the oven beeping. Apparently it turns itself off after a predetermined amount of time so I had to restart that up. I'm still about 20 degrees off of where I want.
Next, saw that it was raining. Not only that, I had the hammock out so that's wet. So even if the rain stops, the hammock is still wet. Well, there's shit to do inside. And there's drinking. There's always drinking.

Doing pretty good, I've got some guacamole dip made, chicken marinated, brats cooked and beer and resulting onions/peppers reduced down. Tonight I'll cook up the chicken and start the brisket. And I got a haircut and bought some bleach. What more could I ask for?

Well, the party mix is made. I stole an idea from Food Network for this so I can't take all of the credit.
