Well, looks like Detroit sports are pretty much over. Unless the Tigers get out of their funk, I've got to look forward to the Lions? What kinds of crazy, mixed up world do we live in?

I don't know how, but I am here at the office. Maybe to do the work I should've done last night? Who knows. I'm here and sleepy, but not hungover. I showed some restraint in my alcohol consumption last night. I think I'm coming down with something.

That's Corzo tequila. All I know is that tequila's my Achille's Heel. One would think that would stop one, but not this one.Wednesday, May 30, 2007

I've been at the office 3 hours already. This ain't any fun.

I don't know much, but I know I don't want to go to work today.

I watched V for Vendetta last night plus the Lost season finale. The latter was much better, but V wasn't so bad. I could've used more of a back story on that V guy, but you can't always get what you want.

Toobing was great, no rain in sight. Well, rain on the way down, but none on the river. I'd say it was the best toobing of all time! I did get back and was wiped out, so another early night of sleep, though. And up before 9 am, but that leaves me a day to do stuff.

mobile post: on my way toobing
Apparently it is the 30th anniversary of Star Wars. I can't say how little that actually means to me. And, yes, it is quite early. That's what happens when you go to bed around 11 pm.

Ran into Tai Chi at the Houston airport and had a couple pops while waiting for this next flight. That kept me from strangling somebody while watching the Pistons game. What is wrong with them? All I know is this flight better not be delayed because of weather, I'm beat.

It was a bit of a rush to get down here, but I'm sitting in the nice, wi-fi friendly, West Palm Beach airport. An eight dollar Guinness has let me know I'm halfway home.
Looks like we'll have a pretty big group floating down the Guadalupe River Saturday (weather permitting, of course). If my math is close to accurate, I've got at least fifteen. That should be fun. Weather permitting.
I've had a slight change in plans and am now renting a car down to the airport ($75 for a couple hours use of a rental is somehow still better than the local shuttles. I have no idea how, but it is. I should nail a hooker in the back seat, that'll show them). That's speeding up the process to get the heck out of dodge.

This is going to be heck of a day as I couldn't fall to sleep until well past 2 and got up by 7 am. I wonder if that ginormous ice cream bowl had anything to do with it? I'd lean towards that answer being yes. Anyway, I'm going for a walk on the beach, maybe get some final sun before heading out of town.

I totally expected a Pistons game tonight. I can't watch Lost without HD, so I guess I'm stuck watching baseball.

Nice article about this company I used to work for. Too bad I'm not still around, though I don't miss the travelling.

Well, the Red Wings lost, but I don't think there were many expectations. So maybe they overachieved? Fuck that, it still sucks.
Up at 6 am, I love it! At least today I made it down to the beach to get a little jog in. Man, it's windy as all get out down here.

That was an ugly Pistons game. I don't know if I can sit through another of these (actually, I didn't sit through this one as I used the folks exercise room and then went on a long phone call. Still it was boring).

Now the days are just getting ridiculous; I ran my dad up to drop off some paperwork and the round trip was nearly two hours. I get back to him realizing that he should never have dropped those pagers off. So I get to go back and get it. Fun.
Is it just because I'm going to bed before midnight that I'm waking up so early? I guess I did sleep in in comparison to other days. I blame the heat.

This place is nuts, not only have I made breakfast but I've got DINNER on the stove. And that was an hour ago. At least we're not eating dinner until 5:30 or so. Hopefully I won't sleep through the Red Wings game.
At least I got the ipod to work. Now if I could just get my parents to listen to me, I'd be batting a 1.00.

Met up with an old friend from high school and I still was home before 11 pm.

Brought my home pretty early and I think there's more work with her here than with her in the hospital. I'm wiped out and its barely past noon.

Well, sounds like my mom will be coming home tommorrow. That'll be good because my dad's strange buying patterns are killing me. Definitely will be good to have my mom over my shoulder telling me how much to overcook my dad's pasta
Guess what's not workin? My damn ipod. And this time there wasn't a trip to the pool to blame it on. I was just driving around and it stopped playing. I tried my own earphones and the same dealio. Thankfully I have that extended warranty thing. Still not good that those things are going out like me on the weekends.
Jager corrected me; the Red Wings are already in the Conference Finals, the Pistons are the ones just getting in. I'm sure that's some sort of jinx and the Wings will lose their next several games. Well, two to be exact. Everyone can thank me for screwing it all up.

Thank the Maker that the Pistons finished off those pesky Bulls. Too bad the Wings couldn't keep up the momemtum and beat the Ducks. Oh well, at least one team's in the conference finals.

Nice day around here after several in a row of it raining and just overall being shitty. I'm pretty much done for the day and am going to hang out with my mom. That is after shuttling my dad back and forth and letting him catch up on some rest and making him some grub.
This Rafael Furcal guy's on fire. He started off Sunday with a batting .214 average left Tuesday Tuesday night at .297. That's where 14 hits in 16 at-bats helps out.

I think I got my dad's system all squared away. We yanked off that memory hog Norton and installed some shareware virus software, Avast, and a piece of Windows Defender. It is a Microsoft program but it handles spyware and lets you somewhat easily modify your start menu. Yo! recommended it, so that makes up for it being Microsoft. Now I just need a place for the router to hang out so its not in the way.

Rumor has it that it rained like the dickens in Austin.
I had an internet connection here for a minute, but that all went away. And to keep out of annoying any of the patients or visitors I took a conference call from the parking lot. It was like 85° and very humid, the sun blaring onto my screen with me sitting on a curb. That was a fun time. I should've just kicked somebody out of their room. But I'm done for the day.
Between all the stuff going on and my brother was snoring up a storm I couldn't fall asleep until nearly 3. And I didn't just pulverize him with a pillow to snuff out the noise. Something's seriously wrong with me. Especially consider I got up to work around 2 am and that I got up before 7 am this morning.

One day at the hospital knocked out and I'm already thinking of praying to some god for this thing to speed up. Number one, of course for my mom to feel better, but number two through eight to get me the heck out of this crazy place. I'm going stir crazy with none of my normal distractions (dvr, strippers, hookers, excessive boozing, moderate-to-semi-excessive boozing, even work). End it sure doesn't help that it sounds like work's all types of fucked up (convenient since I got my power cord, maybe I can hang myself with it). At least I can catch the last half of the Pistons game while keeping track of the Tigers battling it out with the Bosox and the Red Wings game out in Anaheim.

Man, nobody's got any sense of time down in this friggin place; they said my mom would be out of surgery and out of recovery by 11:15 and she came out around 1:30. And the volunteers around here are almost deader than the people who are being treated. There was this group of three people walking around with beanies on with an invisible dog asking people to pet the dog. I hate humoring stupid people, even well meaning ones.
Though it is always a good time to see the reactions to my brother's ringer; Ozzy screaming "All aboard" and then the start to "Crazy Train". Even the near dead people at the hospital can hear that.

Was at the hospital a couple hours before heading back to my folks place to resolve the internet issues so I can eventually work. Laptop power cord is on is way (home sweet home...).

I get to get up before 5 am tomorrow. My brother's down here for a couple nights and I haven't shared a room with anybody in a long time, so we'll see how that works out.
I just gourged myself on mom's spaghetti and meatballs, I think I had a quarter more than I really should have. That's the only thing that might keep me from having a slice of cheese cake tonight.
I always forget how slow the pace is down here. We went by the grocery store and everyone's taking their gay old time about going through the checkout process. The only thing not slow is my dad's ability to talk; it makes me seem like I'm not talking at all. I'm already exhausted.
Now word on the bag, but I did manage to get some new stuff in case my bag doesn't show up (no word yet). New drawers and deodorant, just what a son needs to go hang out at the hospital.

Well, helluva flight into Florida. Both of my flights were late and the flight to Florida was barely there when I arrived. My bag is missing and my dad accussed me of being drunk in front of this cute girl. Another 11 days of this kind of fun. By the time all that was done I got to my parent's place near 2 am. Oh, and I forgot my laptop power cord so I won't be able to fully work until that arrives.

mobile post: breafast of champions and of tequila
Saturday, May 12, 2007
Well, folks are showing up and showing up early. I cracked open a beer around 12:30 because the pool cleaning turned into a fiasco; piece of equipment after piece of equipment busted on me. I'm hoping the copious amounts of alcohol will either occupy everyone's time or make everyone forget the pool's not blue.
I actually took it easy last night. I know I was up until nearly 3, but I went to bed sober and have already been up for 2 hours getting stuff done around the house. The burgers are all thawed out and I just need to put out some bowls and such for when folks show up (around 4:30). I'm hoping I need to get some time to pack for the tomorrow's trip. I should be ok, though, since my flight's not until 6:30 tomorrow afternoon.

I just got back from Hot Fuzz. That movie hilarious. Even I laughed out loud. I'm not sure if it was because of the Pappy's bourbon or that it was just hilarious on its own. All I know is I need to check out that Shaun of the Dead movie.

I got home to having a nice Fedex thingy on my door. neolefty finally got me a bottle of booze for “winning” last year's Nanowrimo. Turns out I have to go up to the Fedex place to get it. Damn booze!

Well, one week from today I'll be in Florida. I figure that's one way to get ahead of my schedule. If I leave for work at this time I'll be there an hour before everyone else!

Pretty quiet day today, but I did manage to make down to the Pecan Street Festival. Nothing too crazy, but got to see Jamiliya down there. There were some (mostly) unattractive belly dancers but I got around that by standing farther away. They all looked a lot better gyrating from a distance.

Great sports day for the city of Detroit: the Red Wings destroyed San Jose, the Pistons made that destruction look small by their manhandling of the Bulls, and the Tigers came from behind against Kansans City. Now, I go to the bar to celebrate.

I went to see Spider-Man 3. It wasn't all that bad. I would've liked a shorter film, and some serious editing of a certain section of the movie. But I'd recommend it.

Believe it or not, I stayed in tonight. I caught up some on the dvr and checked out The Illusionist earlier and it was ok. I love that Ed Norton.
I can't believe it, but I'm going to the office now. I need an IV and some sleep, but I don't think that's in the cards.

Not only did I jinx the Red Wings last night, but I jinxed the weather (I scoffed at today's forecast for weather). For that gesture, I got dumped on whilst running to the grocery store.
