if there's a sale on food, i can't turn it down
Aces sent me an email about Pok-e-Jo's having a 30th anniversary sale: all prices to 1970 levels. So I got a sandwich with a side, two meat plates with two sides for $13. Plus they had 70¢ beer so I had a couple of those to boot. Who can turn that down? Though I think between my pizza for breakfast and this, I've gained like 5 pounds today.Sunday, December 28, 2008

There was an intention to do a lot today but I have only bought groceries (necessary materials for the jagerschnitzel I'll be making tonight plus sammy stuff for the week) and stopped by Aces place for a penny portrait that I'll be using as a late Christmas gift.

back to normal
I slept in, had a bagel, then moved to the couch. Then I started back on getting caught up on the dvr (I can't believe how many episodes of Molto Mario, Fringe and other assorted, unnamed shit I've got to sift through). That was several hours ago and almost forgot Florida State was playing their bowl game today (against Wisconsin in the Champs Sports Bowl). Bubba mentioned coming over and Aces might not be too far behind. Plus I need to get some shite unpacked and do something with my office. I guess I'll have to get off my ass.

december's austin tech happy hour
An old boss of mine has started up this almost monthly happy hour, the Austin Tech Happy Hour. I think it has been about a year or year and a half since it has started back, but that was back during the dark ages. I think I missed last month, but I'll check out tonight with Aces and emjey. And possibly Ichiban.

Well, Aces and my weak nature have caused me to piss away my Saturday with bar hopping until 3 am. Now I see my Sunday going the same way. I managed to sneak away and meet a couple people that are going to Argentina next month so that's something. Though I had some high hopes for the weekend and I believe I'll end up doing virtually nothing of consequence. Good times!

I was out decently late with Aces and Flashman, but I am now rushing around trying to get out of the house. I was doing OK time-wise when the lawn guy came by to deal with my bug issues (oh, my front lawn has an infestation). Then after that, my neighbor mentioned there was the current brand of pool chemicals are being discontinued and are on clearance. So I needed to run up there buy a bunch of shite (though now I'm good for a hundred years). Convenient, because I'm all out of that shite.
And now, I've got to get cleaned up and out the door.

I was just beat yesterday and could barely get out of bed. My toe that I hurt around Christmas starting bothering me again Monday afternoon, so that made things uncomfortable. Aces came by with some of the most disgusting flavors of Gatorade, but Sunshine came by with some Valentine's candy (my first Valentine in over a decade!).
Today I just kept going back to bed with only the occassionaly interuption to...well, I won't disgust you with that. I might have to try the whole day like that...

Speaking of prompting, my brother called me up and he's coming for a visit in a couple weeks. The good part of that is he's bringing my parent's card table with him. Something more to lose in a card game to Aces.

I can't seem to get asleep, but at least watching Ocean's Twelve will entertain me. And not in a good way.
After leaving Sealy's engagement party, I went downtown to meet with the Cooler and his crew. After some bar hopping, I stumble into Aces down with two of his future brother-in-laws. They'd been out since 5 pm partying it up downtown. Aces once again said he was just about to buy his ticket to Vegas for the Superbowl, but I'll believe it when I see it. We closed out Light Bar with me staying with Aces and the BILs. Somewhere we lost one of the BIL's. Nobody seemed to mind, though, as Aces wandered down 6th Street trying to find some action for the remaining BIL. He's got splendidly funny material. Horribly effective, but funny to watch. That killed another hour or so and was highly entertaining. Much more so than Ocean's Twelve.

Well, I'm back online, but they aren't totally done. The roof looks all to be shingled, but the extension out back needs some more work as does the patio cover. And a lot of cleanup needs to happen, but we're most of the way there. My handyman is cutting holes in my ceiling for the skylight; I'd imagine that'll be the last thing done, most likely early next week.
And then whenever I want to, I can bust out the glass and be like the Pantheon. Hmm, now that's a thought.
OK, Chilly's in town and we're going to go grab some grub. Way better than getting loaded with Aces.

The roof looks pretty darn good, but the back patio that's getting rebuilt has somehow got my cable knocked out. This has been a couple of really boring hours. How the heck did people survive without the Internet? Minesweeper got old quick and I don't have a floppy to install Jezzball so I'm screwed. Almost thought about doing some painting in my bathroom, but I am not that bored yet. At least I've confirmed that Aces isn't up for more boozing tonight. So I've got that going for me.

Well, JMVC got engaged. First Sealy, then Aces, now JMVC. And that comes after Chilly, Sunshine, and The Cooler getting married. What's everyone's preoccupation with this marriage thing? I just don't get it. Anyway, I guess this when I start tracking down younger, single friends. Or I can jump on the "move to San Francisco" bandwagon with incognegro.

Fun day out with Aces down in Gruene and San Marcos. Well, the fun was really more for me as he was ill with something (or just sick of me). We had a weird detour in Kyle (because that town has no way around train tracks) where I got some samples for bathroom counter tops, San Marcos outlet to get my new Le Creuset pan, and Greune for great food at the Gristmill. Need to go to Gruene more often, nice little place.

I made Risotto for the first (maybe second?) time. It didn't turn out quite the way I would've like it. It was still good with the pees and cheese in it, but maybe I could've used a bit more chicken brother.
Shit, I forgot about setting up those solar lights. Aces said they needed a couple days to glow up, but I think setting them up tomorrow should be sufficient.

For some reason Bubba calls me from work numbers and doesn't leave messages. It makes it tough to ignore him when he's calling from new numbers. And why doesn't Bubba leave messages? Why, Bubba, why? I leave messages. They typically end with "I'm done with you" but that shouldn't make him not want to leave me messages. I'm quite confoosed by it.
Well, the first day back at work went fine and I'm going to meet up with Aces to get some solar powered lights for the back yard. It's turning into Bioshpere over here. Someone stop me!

Somebody at Ace's party had actually run a triathlon today. I think she makes up for my lack of inactivity by quite a bit.
Jebus, I need to get off this drunken roller coaster. Or get another beer, I'm not sure.
I was thinking last night would be quiet, but I ended up going to Red Fez with a bunch of folks, nearly killed myself walking across a table, and for good measure invited half the bar came back to my place afterwards. It wasn't until we all got back to my place that I realized that it was nearly all dudes. Not the best of calls on my part, but stopping drinking at 2 am just wasn't in the cards. I mean, why should Sunday have been any different than Friday or Saturday night?
And all those brave soldiers did die so I could get loaded frequently and with reckless abandon, didn't they?
Well, I had better rest up for this last minute BBQ at Ace's place.
