Good times in Austin today. Like 30 beers out here.

had to try it out

That's my friggin office with bars being pointed out to me.  This is awesome.  Its like virtual reality within reality.  neolefty brought this to my attention yesterday (it is the latest version of the Yelp application for the iPhone) but I only got the thought to figure it out a little bit ago.  Thankfully because if I knew this would be this cool I'd have downloaded it hours ago and wandered the streets looking for bars.  Which is scary because I already know where most of them are and finding the ones that have been hiding from me would be quite the boon.

rest for the wicked

I believe Tai Chi headed out several hours ago; I'm still recovering from the blur that was Friday night to Saturdaynight. We had work people cancel so we had dinner with people we didn't know, drank five dollar margaritas and over priced food, ate cupcakes at The Driskill (with Chimay) before meeting up with The Closer and doing some Flaming Doctor Peppers. Then things are a bit cloudy before getting woke up around 8 am for tubing. There was drinking involved with that before coming home for a nap then going back out to get some food at my latest food stop, Home Slice. Then out for some drinking with The Cooler again (this time for his birthday) before calling it a night. I need a nap!

all you can eat mussels...to the extreme

Man, lots of food at Sagra's with the Pilots and emjey. Tuesday is all-you-can-eat-mussels night and I had eight plates but emjey had to show me up and have ten. The waiter had said the record was six which I can't imagine. Whatever, I just wish I had stopped with just the excessive eating but the booze flew like wine. And sambuca. And then some beers at the Flying Saucer. And maybe a bourbon at my house. And now some pain this morning.

event tonight

My boss came up from San Antonio today and we met up tonight, conveniently near where I'm going tonight for an event MECA's putting on at Kenobi. He was his typical self but the food at Serranos was good. And prettty quick. Too bad the company blew.

As if we didn't do enough of this on Saturday night, but Ichiban came by for the continuing party at The Pilot's. I'm still recovering from the weekend but at least there's a some evidence of the wonderful game of Jenga.

trip two

And I'm so sick of my spending money I didn't bother with the HEB stop. As for the beer, I have three 18 packs of Bud Light, 1 24 pack of each Bud Light, Coors Light and Coors.  So that's just 126 beers so hopefully people are bring their own. That's just 6 beers per person so hopefully people bring some of their own.

the going away/birthday party

The party house This kid could be my son. He even makes deliveries

Here are some of the tamer pictures from the weeked. The first of the party house and two of who could be my son. I mean, he's pumping a keg and running out beers to folks.

And now we're walking to the local bars. A good turnout considering many of these folks had been drinking since before 2 PM and this shot was past 8.

houston saucer

Just got back from the Houston Flying Saucer OK, I'll get the good news out of the way: there are nearly 110 beers I haven't had (out of the 387 I have had in Austin). That's good because I had only bottles remaining in Austin but here in Houston I was able to get a Fire Sale (for anybody not in the Saucer world, this is a draft beer for $2.75 which is a rarity for me). As for the bad, it isn't in the best part of town so we got so see homeless/drunk guys almost get into fights, sit on a fence and show ass crack, and ask for change, all while sitting and enjoying our beers on the patio! Oh, and the service is HORRIBLE, so bad I can't really see going more than two or three more times this weekend.

Pretty sweet picture from tonight's pub crawl, stop number 5 I do believe. This is from Touche and the Flaming Doctor Pepper's. For those of you new to the world of the Flaming D, here's how to reproduce these at home (not that I recommend it).

the hangover

Holy shit, was The Hangover hilarious. I hadn't read much about it and only had the trailers to go on so was surprised that Bradley Cooper played the asshole. He's usually such a good guy but he pulled it off and then some. Ed Helsm was awesome. The story was funny and (somewhat) realistic. It was like what I'd like to think my Vegas times are really like. Go see this movie!

Now I need to get ready for the rest of the night. Heading out on a bit of a pub crawl with some folks. Starting off at the new wine bar, Max's Wine Dive then wandering around east 6th Street to some places before hitting Red River and eventually ending up at Club Deville.

huge pot pie

I'm up at the Daily Grill up in the Domain and unable to eat much for lunch so I'm sure this pot pie will join the artichoke dip already not eaten.  Though I should eat since I basically partied it up all day yesterday around the house, even the neighbor came by and was telling Vietnam stories. Interesting times.

And in case you're concerned, that Johnny Walker in the left corner will be taken down.

I decided to check out my friends running the CapTexTri this morning.  I was so inspired that I drank a beer down there.  If you had a shot of my face you could have one of those faux Motivational Posters. Anyways, I've got people coming back to my house to enjoy the pool.

steadying myself for terminator salvation

Just got out of running some errands after checking out Terminator Salvation with emjey. I like how it was filmed.  And even more, I like having a flask of Maker's Mark to mix with my frozen coke/cherry coke swirl. Seriously, Christian Bale was great but (maybe) even better Sam Worthington. I don't know how much this will make at the box office or if they'll be another one of these movies, but I'd like to see more of McG's Terminator world.

I had a pretty long day of avoiding turning my Sunday in house work and ended that avoiding in my office getting some pics of me pretending to work. texas chili parlor plus some

Oh, it is sad when I sleep in until 9 and I think that's fine. All that crazy training all week hopefully doesn't have me accustomed to getting up early.

Anyways, got some drinks after my session with the crew down at Hula Hut for some mediocre drinks. Then we decided to blow that popsicle stand before we gave them any more money. I suggested Texas Chili Parlor and am glad for it; that place is damn good. After that, we grabbed a couple more drinks at Dog & Duck Pub (which is owned by the same guy who owns Billy's on Burnet so I'm keeping it in the family this week). And I was still in bed before 11 PM. What a night!

Anyways, better to get on with my day.

brunch at sagra

I just got back from a great brunch at Sagra Trattoria. I had the polenta with fried eggs but the key was the 75¢ mimosas and bellinis. Who can turn those down? I chose the bellinis and drank like 10. And the food was great. I had the fried eggs with polenta, but there were plenty of items on the menu for another time.

bourbon flight

What should one drink at a place that specializes in beer? Why, how about a flight of bourbon? It was a flight of four of the Knob Creek bourbons. Of the four, I liked Basil Hayden's and then Booker's. And with all of that, I am already home.

Being home, I am able to fix this stupid pictures. I can only send pictures from the sent items of my Yahoo! email account to get them to show up here. And not from any way to access my email, only from a computer (e.g. I can't use my iPhone). Quite annoying, for sure.

guinness on a sunday afternoon

Well, a Sunday morning, but who's counting?

I just got home from the drunkenness that is Santacon and I think I need a Guinness before I can get back to sleep. I mean, I've been up since around 7 so there's nothing wrong with a beer after being up for an hour, is there? Plus it is Sunday.

Though what is more disturbing is I can't email pictures to the revamped dmt. I'll have to do some research. But you can imagine the Santacon picture was fabulous.

Shit, neolefty reminded of Santacon. Lots of people dressing up as the friendly man from the North Pole (and/or his minions) and then bar hopping. He hit it last year along with some of the Bay Area crowd I know. They've got an Austin-friendly one that I might check out this weekend. Seems like a lot work buying a Santa Claus costume just to wander around getting loaded. But who am I kidding, I don't need much of an excuse.

The world is about to come to an end: I just came back from McDonald's. I felt like a Big Mac yesterday so figured I'd go grab one today. And instead of fries, I got a spicy chicken sandwich. Then I saw they had sweet tea, so I had to get a 32 oz. one of those. They thought I ordered a combo so they gave me an order of fries (I told them their mistake and they just gave me them). Then that Monopoly game was going on and I won a McFlurry. All of this for $5.20. No wonder America is so fat. And that I'm fat.

Sunday, March 18, 2007

I've been back home since around 5:00 PM and feel fine. I might've looked like shite to anyone who saw me until Houston, but that's another story. Especially considering the pints of Guinness and other beverages yesterday, I should say so. I got lost in Marlow trying to find the train station, then got a taxi to the train station but the driver thought he had won the lottery and was taking me to London. Then I got the train and made it back to the city just in time for the tube to shut down half-way to my hotel. Which meant finding another cab. And a cash point (UK speak for an ATM) because I was out of sterling. Then this morning I was about to volunteer to skip the flight and stay in London another night. But that fell through. But not before they had me check my carry on so I had nothing to read or write on or do besides watch movies and sleep. Which wasn't so bad considering.

Oh well, I'm home and the pool's only honoring the holiday who's color is green. I'm going to delay the inevitable but when I sleep I hope it's like the dead. But before that, here's a composite of the day that was St. Patrick's Day in Marlow, England.

Some phone pics from New Year's in BA. We're at this really sweet place in beautiful Puerto Madero where we had to bribe our way in. Well, get charged a decent chunk for down here, but I think we have all the wine and champagne we can drink.

It is a shame I don't have pictures of neolefty bumping into a trash can as we rushed to this place. Our crazed taxi driver dropped us off at the opposite end from the other group so we were stepping fast in the humidity all the while checking each restaurant if they would let us in. During one of these drive-by's, neolefty just walked into an open bin and the crowd erupted! We finally hooked up the rest of the group and got into this place for about forty or fifty American.

Now I've got to get over my sleepiness and get up to Jacksonville to meet up with my college roommate. I'm hoping to stay not too drunk again.

I just got home from a party. Man, I'm beat. I'm just glad I didn't start drinking until I got to the party (near midnight). Good times were had (and pictures taken, maybe to be posted) but I think the funniest thing was this girl telling me how to avoid getting foam in my beer. She said to pour it out. Nice!

Well, sleep time for me.

Well, Aces and my weak nature have caused me to piss away my Saturday with bar hopping until 3 am. Now I see my Sunday going the same way. I managed to sneak away and meet a couple people that are going to Argentina next month so that's something. Though I had some high hopes for the weekend and I believe I'll end up doing virtually nothing of consequence. Good times!

I had a few places to hit last night, but the middle stop was Six Lounge and there was a bit of an incident between a guest and a bouncer. I had a front row seat as the guest got the beat down and dragged out. Funny thing, I saw his hat and it was an FSU one. I had to take it home as a souvenir. Our people are usually a bit less temperamental and moody. This man does not represent our people!

Met up with some folks at Trudy's on campus before going to Crown last night. Winston's out of town so the normal Thursday thing usually dies without him. And since I saw none of this friends there, I'm assuming that is the case. Next week, possibly, it will reconvene. And I have no desire to go into the office other than I've got a couple breakfast tacos waiting for me. I'm hoping I can out of there early tonight because I want to hit this thing at the Blanton Museum, B Scene. Atlanta had something similar, me thinks, as they keep the museum open late and serve booze (along with music, of course). Worth a try, I think.

mobile post: long day, short sleep ahead

Well, the Tigers might be wining, but the Lions still stink. Me and S. Money saw that dreadful game before heading down to Fenton to meet up with his brother at this little place called the French Laundry. They had tons of beers, including this crazy beer from Unibroue brewery called Apple-Ephemere. We ran out of time and couldn't hit Joe and Lewie's Penalty Box Sports Tavern (long name, but it's a bar owned by folks associated with the Red Wings). Then we headed and met my brother at his place of work before arriving way too late in Ann Arbor for my other brother's taste. Oh well. Early start tomorrow for my return trip so I better hit it. Not like I can verify my fantasy football scores or anything. Damn no internet!

Went out for a quick beer at the Crown, but I shouldn't have stopped for a couple at Billy's first. Ended up closing down Mean Eyed Cat with The Saw. I don't think I'll be making it into work today. It's a good thing they understand my special needs.

I tried to go tailgating, but it seemed like too much a pain in the ass to park so I called up The Saw and followed him to his brother's place. His brother was smoking some brisket and ribs and I'm pretty confident that I won't need to eat again today. Maybe even tomorrow. Now I've got to rest up to be able to have the energy to go downtown to drink beer.
