not him!

I had a dream that I had a conversation with that CSQ Steve Spurrier. And it was a decently cordial to boot. Wow, that's painful.

myron rolle

My man from Florida State, Myron Rolle, is choosing Oxford over the millions from the NFL. Well, at least for a year. I hope he offsets any of that nonsense that FSU isn't a real school and doesn't care about its education (that might be too much pressure for the kid). Also, I was just reading this SI article about him just yesterday.

And speaking of reading, I had a post about him committing to FSU back in February 2006. And I forgot to boo C.J. Spiller.

back to normal

I slept in, had a bagel, then moved to the couch. Then I started back on getting caught up on the dvr (I can't believe how many episodes of Molto Mario, Fringe and other assorted, unnamed shit I've got to sift through). That was several hours ago and almost forgot Florida State was playing their bowl game today (against Wisconsin in the Champs Sports Bowl). Bubba mentioned coming over and Aces might not be too far behind. Plus I need to get some shite unpacked and do something with my office. I guess I'll have to get off my ass.

Oh, here are some pics of the office I took before I left for Florida. I've got a new desk and two new book cases.

the not so great escape

Heading up to Orlando to catch tonight's and tomorrow's NFL games at Renegade's place. Big games for me and him in fantasy, though much bigger for him (I'm playing for third place, he for first place). I believe it will be my only substantive escape from retirement community hell. From my parent's place it is a couple hours, but I'm going to make a stop by Ron Jon's Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach. I haven't been to that place in 14 years, back when I was actually young. I've got to pick up some nick nack patty wacks.

I had a bachelor party last night and I got home around four. And to make the fun even more so, I volunteered at the cooking school. Thank God they gave me a couple mimosas to take the edge off. Bubba's stopped by and now we're headed up to Sherlock's to catch the rest of these worthless football games.

This is one hell of a way to prepare for Seerwah's visit.

Great line about the screw-job that is the NFL Network:

"So, you fortunate souls who'll be tuning in from your living rooms on Thursday, be sure to shed a tear for your deprived brothers and sisters in Austin and Madison. And take consolation in the fact that the residents of those fine cities who really want to watch this game will have some really good bars from which to choose."

Taken from an article by Michael Silver on Yahoo.

I'll need to find one of those really good bars Thursday, that's for sure.

Well, they are the same old Lions. I'm sure the players will blame this on the media.

Well, looks like Detroit sports are pretty much over. Unless the Tigers get out of their funk, I've got to look forward to the Lions? What kinds of crazy, mixed up world do we live in?

Thursday, November 23, 2006

Oh, Borat is best while loaded, but even better if you eat some food. Unfortunately I missed that last part. I'm in a bit of pain today and the Lions piss poor performance (on and off the field) sure did not help.

So the couch will be my companion today as I need all my rest for tonight's Lady Sovereign show.

I love LaDainian Tomlinson! I might win my fantasy football game this week with the rest of my team having scored only 21. A miracle from heaven itself. Thought I'll be in trouble going forward with Donovan McNabb knocked out but I have an ex-Lion waiting in the wings: Joey Harrington!

Oh, and I'm going into my fourth week on Nano just on pace.

mobile post: long day, short sleep ahead

Well, the Tigers might be wining, but the Lions still stink. Me and S. Money saw that dreadful game before heading down to Fenton to meet up with his brother at this little place called the French Laundry. They had tons of beers, including this crazy beer from Unibroue brewery called Apple-Ephemere. We ran out of time and couldn't hit Joe and Lewie's Penalty Box Sports Tavern (long name, but it's a bar owned by folks associated with the Red Wings). Then we headed and met my brother at his place of work before arriving way too late in Ann Arbor for my other brother's taste. Oh well. Early start tomorrow for my return trip so I better hit it. Not like I can verify my fantasy football scores or anything. Damn no internet!

Sunday, October 01, 2006

Good to see the Tigers blow five games in a row and lose division. And the Lions lost. Though my fantasy football team is looking in good shape, but reality sports blow right now for me.

Sunday, September 10, 2006

Hey fellow Lions fans, losing 6-9 against the defending NFC champs is still a loss. Don't bleed me a river with talks about moral victories and building character. Matt Millen still needs to go far away (I'd say die, but don't want to be too morbid).

Labels: ,

Tuesday, May 16, 2006

The Pistons may blow, but the Tigers keep on winning. They won their fifth straight tonight. What next, the Lions winning? Well, that can never happen.

Saturday, April 29, 2006

Holy shit, the Lions didn't draft an offensive player. And they got a Seminole, so they can't do much better in my eyes. Still, they could've drafted that Leinart kid out of USC. Or even that crazy Jay Cutler kid. All I know is the second quessing continues for the Lions. I'm figuring the Lions are running scared and worried about making the wrong call. And Matt Millen needs to get fired off the face of the earth. Yes, there is a reason I have a banner to have the guy fired on my site. Friggin moron.

Labels: ,

Man, crazy night of storms again. I woke up about thirty minutes ago and now can't fall back to sleep. It gives me time to overthink the Lions and their pending stupidity today. I had hoped they'd trade down or something, but it looks like they'll stand pat. I'd like that safety out of Texas, Michael Huff, but I can see them drafting a quarterback to muddy the waters a bit more. Stupid Matt Millen will screw up something I am quite sure.

National signing day and it looks like Florida State is doing ok, but we already have Myron Rolle signed! He's the consensus number one guy in the nation. Hopefully we'll have a couple more signed before the end of the day. All I know is next time they're playing Clemson, I'll be booing C.J. Spiller as he supposed to go and play for FSU. Screw that kid.

I was going back and forth between the kitchen and watching ESPN so I could check out yestereday's Lions victory highlights. Well, I just walked to the TV and they were just wrapping up. Just my luck. And isn't it just like the Lions to win late in the year to keep them from having a shittier record? Damn they suck even when you don't want them to.

Holy shit the Lions look horrible. The only thing looking worse than their offense is their defense. How the hell do they think they'll better this year when they still can't stop the run, nobody can catch a ball, and none of the quarterbacks can get it done? It could be a long and disappointing year.

Sunday, October 24, 2004

Another Detroit Lions victory! And even better was I was actually able to see the game. Detroit's in Dallas next Sunday and Seerwah and I are heading up for the game. A little Halloween bludgeoning of the Cowboys by a hungry Lions team looking for four in a row on the road (and can match their win total for all of last year). If only I had my throwback Roy Williams jersey. But I guess they'd actually have to be producing them. It'll be a choice now between my Joey Harrington and Charles Rogers; not really much of choice.

Pretty eventful week coming up: Chevelle on Wednesday and up to Big D on Saturday. And rumor has it that I have to get some work done this week, too.

Tuesday, October 12, 2004

My fantasy football team is finally off the schnyde. One and four here I come. I went into MNF up only 15 points and my opponent had Ahman Green. So I was sweating the possibility of a loss. Well, for the first ten minutes of the game. Definitely before the Packers fell apart at Lambeau and got blown out 48-27. They looked just awful.

And guess who's up next for the Pack? The Lions in Detroit. Time for the Lions to prove they can win a game they're supposed to win. If they win this won, there might not be anything to dislodge me from the bandwagon.

If you're a betting man, take the Lions and the 6 1/2 points on the road versus Atlanta. I know I'm prejudiced on this one so feel free to ignore me.

And as crazy as it sounds, light night for me tonight. Or so that's the plan. And I'm the heck out of the office.

Monday, December 08, 2003

So Oklahoma lays an egg against Kansas State and now Florida State has to play Miami again? What kind of bull shit is this BCS? FSU's got to play Miami to start next season so they'll be playing each other three times within 11 months. I really don't care that LSU isn't playing USC because Michigan's going to kill the Trojans. Absolutely kill them. On and off the field. But FSU shouldn't have to play the same team. Sounds like the Fiesta Bowl screwed FSU by taking Ohio State. I hope K-State demolishes the Buckeyes.

And it's good to see the Lions are back to their disappointing ways. Another loss, this time to the San Diego Chargers. And at home to boot. I almost could have guessed they'd lose as soon as I heard Az-Zahir Hakim was going to be inactive. Without him, they've got nobody who can somewhat consistency make any meaningful catches. The Lions are at 4-9 and don't look like they'll win another game with games at Kansas City, at Carolina, and then back home to face St. Louis. Four teams have worse records so they'll probably be high enough up to miss on picking up Virginia Tech's Kevin Jones. Screwed again.

I guess I brought the cold weather with me as it's supposed to get into the low 50's this weekend. It wasn't too bad when I ran out for my quick-hit shopping. I can't believe how insane it is out. No wonder I never go shopping the day after Thanksgiving. And since when has it been referred to as "Black Friday"?

I had planned on heading up towards Orlando tonight before watching the FSU-Florida game tomorrow, but I took my folks to Carrabba's instead. Too much food at Carrabba's to allow me to take a two hour drive.

the best player in a Lions' uniformWell, another successful day of NFL football. My fantasy team put up a season-high 116 points; the Lions managed to pull out a close one; and Fat Boy came over with his oldest son and nobody got hurt.

For a shitty team, it is great to have a kicker like Jason Hanson on the team. I may joke about him being a Muppet from time to time, but he's been the most consistent player for Detroit over the last decade. Sad, but true. Here's to you #4! You're the best game in town.

Sunday, October 19, 2003

Home of the inept Detroit Lions.Uhm, the Lions' suck. Their offense is horrible. I'm glad they had a whole extra week to prepare for this game. I can't imagine how badly they'd be getting beat without that extra preparation time. It's a terrible use of a great stadium. Matt Millen needs to be run out of town on a rail.

I made breakfast this morning, pancakes and breakfast tacos. Everything was pretty good, though I didn't use all the pancake batter. So I looked in on the batter a couple hours later and that stuff was like concrete. And we eat this stuff? Imagine how it's just sitting in our gullets. That must take forever to digest all that crap. It can't be good for us. But they taste so good. What a dilemma.

Well, off to watch the Lions-Cowboys game. Hope the boys from Detroit can make a good show of it.

Big football day tomorrow: FSU plays Miami at 11 am followed by UT's battle with Oklahoma. Florida State's bound to tear into the 'Canes. JMVC and Craphonso are headed up to Dallas for the game. Sooners beware.

Tomorrow night, Vlad's having some people over for his birthday. I hope to not be totally hammered.

Saturday, October 04, 2003

One of those crazy, surreal things happened on the way out of work yesterday. The infamous Seerwah called up telling me he was moving to Austin in a month. So I headed up and met him and the misses for din-din and caught up. One more thing to keep me into trouble.

The Saw is on his way over and he, Chilly, and I are heading to the UT-Kansas State game. The consensus out there is that I don't like UT, but I have no clue where that misconception came from. I'm fine with them. Just as long as they aren't playing FSU or Michigan.

Anyway, I think Sunshine has me a ticket. I haven't tailgated in a while, so it should be fun.

Labels: , ,

Sunday, September 14, 2003

Well, UT may have lost, but FSU pulled one out of their arse.

The damn Nebraska-Penn State game was on ABC, so there was only one way to see the game. Brewer told me that Tech used the local Mangia Pizza location as their base. I was a little concerned about going to a Tech bar because that's usually the kiss of death. I put that to the side and dragged Chilly with me for the second half. I should have gone for the last 8 minutes for that's when the comeback happened.

Two late touchdown drives by Chris Rix later: Florida State 14, Georgia Tech 13.

All in all, a decent day of football. Besides FSU's win, Michigan DESTROYED Notre Dame. University of Michigan Wolverines 38, Overrated Golden Domers of Notre Dame 0. In front a NCAA record crowd of 111,726, Michigan handed Notre Dame the worst defeat in the over-100 year rivalry between these two teams.

And that's sports, back to you Nancy.

Wednesday, August 20, 2003

Well, I got the gyro special at Austin Taco & Deli and am now paying the price. Don't get me wrong, it was good. I just stuffed my face too much and all the Code Red in the world can't keep me from being drowsy. It probably would have been enough just to have the gyro but they had to toss in cheesecake, too. I'm a sucker for cheesecake; it's like my Achilles' Heal. Anyway, good food and I now pray for a nap. And if you think I look bad (well, imagine you can see me), you should see Bubba. Looks like a gorilla threw him around.

And speaking of Bubba, the Rain Song was on the radio (do you italicize songs or underline them? I don't know) and he criticized Robert Plant. And then he readily admitted he didn't like Led Zeppelin. I almost through him out of the car. Something's not quite right with that boy. I really should have threw him out the car.

For those of you tracking my movements, I'm going to Michigan in a few weeks. Make alternative arrangements for September 18 - 22. Besides seeing a Lions' game, I've got to get my winter garb to try to compete with JMVC.

I'm heading to Blues On the Green down at Zilker Park tonight. Doyle Bramhall and Los Lonely Boys are playing. Now I don't know anything about this dude Doyle, but Los Lonely Boys are real good. It should be a good show.
