rest for the wicked
I believe Tai Chi headed out several hours ago; I'm still recovering from the blur that was Friday night to Saturdaynight. We had work people cancel so we had dinner with people we didn't know, drank five dollar margaritas and over priced food, ate cupcakes at The Driskill (with Chimay) before meeting up with The Closer and doing some Flaming Doctor Peppers. Then things are a bit cloudy before getting woke up around 8 am for tubing. There was drinking involved with that before coming home for a nap then going back out to get some food at my latest food stop, Home Slice. Then out for some drinking with The Cooler again (this time for his birthday) before calling it a night. I need a nap!

the weekend looming is here
Tai Chi's been here for about an hour and now waiting on me to finish off work to get the weekend started. Supposed to meet some former colleagues down at Cantina Laredo for dinner but we've got an early morning tubing so hopefully we'll take it easy. That was my excuse for taking it easy (for me, at least) this week.

a real unamerican hero
I came down to Houston for the weekend and just came back from checking out GI Joe with Tai Chi. Boy, was this not good. I tried to temper my expectations because it didn't look good but it was much worse than I could have possibly imagined. Let's see, where to start? Oh, the story was ridiculous, the special effects horrible, acting nonexistent, and the personification of the GI Joe characters was bastardized. I mean they've got foreign guys in GI Joe? GI Joe, the Real AMERICAN Hero? WTF?! And the bases were so preposterous it was a slap to the face of anyone who called themselves a fan of GI Joe. I mean, a four level base including a water tank the size of a large city block underground in Egypt? I should've known better as there has to be some rule that any movie title that alludes to future movies just assuming the first one will succeed. But whoever was that redhead was pretty hot. That's something.

tai chai's place
I'm killing time on a call taking some shots of Tai Chi's townhouse. In stifling heat, I might add. This place might be hotter than my house. I'm sticking to this leather couch and might've already drank a gallon of water. I'm pretty sure it is hotter in here than the 82° outside. Anyways, the low-light picture taking ability of the 3GS isn't any better than the previous incarnation but that's to be expected without a flash (I opened up the blinds to get some light in to get it this lit up). So, I better get back to listening to this call; I'm just hoping I don't pass out before I have to talk.Labels: tai chi, technology, work

oh, joy
Nothing better than waking up before 5 and realizing there are things you can do (especially as a home owner). Thursday and Sunday are the days I can water my lawn so I figured I'd knock that out this morning (since I'll be in Houston this weekend visiting Tai Chi). I should take pictures of that lawn and see how it looks later in the summer...
Anyways, I should try to get another hour or sleep before I do the rest of my preparations for my Space City trip. I'll be checking out a couple Tigers games (Friday and maybe Sunday), the Terra Cotta Warrior Exhibit, and maybe the Flying Saucer of Houston. I think that just killed 15 minutes of my sleep...

thanksgiving visitors, sort of
Tai Chi is on his way up to the ATX for a couple days, but not for Thanksgiving. They'll be leaving early on that fabled day of turkeys to visit some more important people, family or some such. All I know is that I've got some cioppino on the docket for dinner tonight.

Well, I need to get the heck out of here! Tai Chi's coming to visit tonight and my place is trashed. At least my brother's gone for the weekend so that'll make things easier.

Ran into Tai Chi at the Houston airport and had a couple pops while waiting for this next flight. That kept me from strangling somebody while watching the Pistons game. What is wrong with them? All I know is this flight better not be delayed because of weather, I'm beat.

Tai Chi and I have managed a decent day's work between the two of us, but now it is done. He got in a nap after I made some crazy vegetarian stir fry (I know, I can't believe I've done such a thing). Now I've got to wake his ass up so we pick up Yo! in a bit, but here's the final tally (?) of what we're bringing on: two 3 liter boxes of wine, a 1/5 of vodka, rum & whiskey (plus some assorted flasks) and five bottles of wine just to carry on. Jebus, help us! Or, at least me.Saturday, July 08, 2006
Long day tubing on the river to be followed with some brisket over at the Bubba's. Tai Chi is heading out and I need detox or a two step program. Something, anything. Oh, and some long periods of sober sleep.

I'm really wiped out. You'd almost think man wasn't meant to drink all day in the hot sun. Thai Chi and I left before the rest of the group, but that didn't stop us from using the emergency brake to scare some shoppers at the outlet mall. And me shotgunning beers in the same outlet mall parking lot must've impressed somebody. But I did end up only buying a new saucepan (and it's got a cover that's a nonstick skillet!). That's a picture with my other Le Creuset.
A now I pass out and pray for death.

Well, my dad called up and seems to think that Rita's coming this way. Well, that'll blow with the roof not fixed. I can expect leakage, I'd imagine. Tai Chi mentioned coming up here from H-town, so maybe I'll put him up there...

So my buddy Tai Chi got stuck in that Hurricane thing:
TaiChi (4:37:03 PM): thought I would check in after my excursion to Mexico - have a story that rivals a purveyor tale
thepurveyor (4:37:13 PM): really?
thepurveyor (4:37:15 PM): i like it
TaiChi (4:37:25 PM): 1.) went to Cozumel for a family wedding
TaiChi (4:38:17 PM): 2.) 25 of us arrived on 7/11, on 7/14 we asked would would happen if the hurricane came. Tour company assured us they would evacuate us.
TaiChi (4:38:49 PM): 3.) 30 more people grabbed flights down for the wedding on 7/15. Tour company assured all of them we would be evacuated in style in the event of a hurricane
thepurveyor (4:39:15 PM): i don't like where this is going
TaiChi (4:39:52 PM): 4.) Moved the wedding from Sunday night to Saturday morning. Immediately after the wedding the resort called a meeting and said we all had to be out of the hotel by 7PM that night. Contacted the tour company and they said you are on your own.
TaiChi (4:41:02 PM): 5.) lead an evacuation of 40 some odd people (39 actually so previuos numbers were wrong) off the island, found shelter from the hurricane and got the fuck off the Pennisula at 3AM CDT on Tuesday morning
thepurveyor (4:41:34 PM): you lead it?
TaiChi (4:41:43 PM): was a hell of a ride - slept about 8 hrs between Saturday night and arrival back in Houston about 5AM on Tuesday morning (2 of those hrs were on the plane ride)
thepurveyor (4:41:44 PM): man, a hurrican makes people desperate
TaiChi (4:42:07 PM): well you know me - people were wondering what the hell to do
TaiChi (4:42:37 PM): I said you have 30 minutes to pack your shit and get down to the lobby we are getting off the island
TaiChi (4:42:58 PM): unfortunately once off the island I was unable to arrange transportation off the pennisula
TaiChi (4:43:51 PM): fortunately one of my cousins (there were 10 of us down there so one of them was bound to step up) found a 5 star resort with a private shelter with enough rooms to accomodate all of us
TaiChi (4:44:23 PM): at this point a family of 5 says fuck this crazy TaiChi cousin plan we are out of here and they bolt to the airport - they eventually get a flight to Mexico City
TaiChi (4:44:54 PM): the remaining 34 check into the 5 star hotel and drink most of the night - too wired to sleep
TaiChi (4:45:26 PM): the next morning another couple decide the hurricane is a force 4 and we are in Playa Del Carmen - right in the path
TaiChi (4:45:37 PM): shelter or not this is not a good place to be so they bolt
TaiChi (4:45:53 PM): they wind up in a shelter with the general population - not a good move on their part
TaiChi (4:46:47 PM): the rest of us wind up in this private shelter, we had food and water. the shelter was in a private school so my family and friends of the family had a private room
TaiChi (4:47:40 PM): I spend the entire time wet and cold - trying to move others to safer areas once shit started falling from the ceiling and blowing off the walls
TaiChi (4:48:33 PM): then I was part of the cleanup effort to get the room back in shape so the others could return - they were standing room only in a large auditorium that appeared to be more structurally sound than the clasrooms
TaiChi (4:49:04 PM): certain sense of pride when I looked around the next morning and saw the other classrooms were flooded and had been adobondoned
TaiChi (4:49:57 PM): we cleaned up the water and shit that had blown off the walls/ceiling in ours and had people back inside within an hr of the time the worst part of the storm had passed
TaiChi (4:50:13 PM): it was sleeping on a hard tile floor, but it beat the shit out of standing for the remainder of the night
TaiChi (4:50:41 PM): on Monday my uncle started working his magic and got us all on a plane out
TaiChi (4:51:44 PM): now my sister the attorney is working her magic - drafter a letter with terms like 'breach of contract', 'depraved indifference', and 'reckless endangerment of human life'
TaiChi (4:51:55 PM): if I am rich the next time you see me you will know what happened
TaiChi (4:54:29 PM): I intend to punch up the story a bit for the screen play - insert more sex and violence to insure Brad Pitt will play me in the movie
thepurveyor (5:13:10 PM): that would be a plan
thepurveyor (5:13:12 PM): though the first step will be posting this to my site
thepurveyor (5:13:21 PM): replacing you with me
Tai Chi: from now on to be known as Hurricane!

Nobody's here yet (and the party's been officially going on for a whole minute now), but Tai Chi is the man. He's helped out more than me. All I had to do was to push him in a direction and he'd do it. Hell, should get him up here more often.

Tai Chi showed up early and helped prep a bit for the party. We then went to this new barbeque place (all you can eat, Chilly!) way out in BFE, the Lazy Fork. Not too bad, I will say, and pretty cheap ($12.95 for the all-you-can-eat).
After we headed downtown, but were done just about midnight. That and I was up today at 7 am to keep on keeping on for the party. I think I have enough food, but you never know with those things. I'm pretty sure I can feed at least twenty people. Pretty sure.
Lots of work still to do, but the pool is a wreck; I don't know if it'll be good for the party.
