had to try it out

That's my friggin office with bars being pointed out to me.  This is awesome.  Its like virtual reality within reality.  neolefty brought this to my attention yesterday (it is the latest version of the Yelp application for the iPhone) but I only got the thought to figure it out a little bit ago.  Thankfully because if I knew this would be this cool I'd have downloaded it hours ago and wandered the streets looking for bars.  Which is scary because I already know where most of them are and finding the ones that have been hiding from me would be quite the boon.

tai chai's place

I'm killing time on a call taking some shots of Tai Chi's townhouse.  In stifling heat, I might add.  This place might be hotter than my house. I'm sticking to this leather couch and might've already drank a gallon of water. I'm pretty sure it is hotter in here than the 82° outside. Anyways, the low-light picture taking ability of the 3GS isn't any better than the previous incarnation but that's to be expected without a flash (I opened up the blinds to get some light in to get it this lit up). So, I better get back to listening to this call; I'm just hoping I don't pass out before I have to talk.

up and running

And now the 3GS synch has completed. Let's see what this bad boy has to offer.

part one done

The 3GS restore from backup JUST completed. That took nearly two hours and that's before I start synching up applications and content. Let's hope that doesn't interfere with happy hour.

done and done, 3GS is here

I couldn't wait so I've got the new iPhone.  But I didn't have to wait as it was sitting there for me. Now I have to get home so I can spend a few hours restoring from my morning backup.

my parent's first mobile phone!

I've got to get this unpacked and loaded with numbers for my folks.  What a great son I am!

the new home office

I've got my office outside set up and the speakers are kicking! You can make out the light of the speaker in the second photo. The third photo is of the only thing working around my place right now, my Polaris. Regardless I shouldn't be floating around in my pool with my iPhone; seems pretty reckless.

my nephew's dog

This is my nephew's dog, Chaser. And I've got to get out of here and meet up with my cousin so I can see his parents. Apparently there's some computer issues that need addressing.

bourbon flight

What should one drink at a place that specializes in beer? Why, how about a flight of bourbon? It was a flight of four of the Knob Creek bourbons. Of the four, I liked Basil Hayden's and then Booker's. And with all of that, I am already home.

Being home, I am able to fix this stupid pictures. I can only send pictures from the sent items of my Yahoo! email account to get them to show up here. And not from any way to access my email, only from a computer (e.g. I can't use my iPhone). Quite annoying, for sure.

living the dream

We've got quite the setup here at Renegade's place, two TVs with all the games and both our games on stattracker.

And on a separate note, I can't seem to get pictures from my iPhone to go directly here. I only seem to get pictures up forwarded from my sent items or from an email browser. I'm sure there must be a fix somewhere.

First dumb ass move with the new camera, instead of busting out the 1GB memory card I took a bunch of house pics with the smaller card and copied it to my computer. I assumed I could copy them back to the camera. Well, that isn't the case and I'll need to take a bunch more pictures if I want to show off my house to my brother (not the one here, another one; I'll start just using references to this new one and expect you to keep up with the conversation).

Well, tv might suck, but the computer's a time killer. This internet thing sure is a lot different with a computer that is capable of loading web content under 3 minutes and that doesn't just reboot occasionally.

I've loaded all my music on the new machine (yes, Dell sent the XP CD's and the fix seems to be working) and imported them all into iTunes (per birthday boy incognegro's suggestion. I am a bit unsure if I like how iTunes has redone all my song direcories, but I'll give it some time to settle in). Then I found myself browsing online music tonight tempted way too much by these 99¢ songs. I see a lot of money being spent and countless hours wasted. And I guess I'll need to avoid working from home so I can actually not get fired. I'll need the cash to pay for the online music.

Well, I watched football last night and didn't bother dealing with the new computer issue. I'll put that off for a bit, but I still didn't go to sleep early even though I was exhausted. At midnight, Scent of a Woman came on, so I watched the first hour of that, but its kind of weird to not be exhausted and have gotten less sleep than normal. Maybe I need to stay up until 1 every night?

Looks like my new computer will be home when I get back from this hell hole. I guess that means I'll be going home early.

Sunday, July 24, 2005

I had planned on going down to Town Lake, but JMVC called up and reminded me of my Sunday tradition of me drinking two dollar imports at Antonio's 183. 101X was doing a remote and I think he won a free Ski Doo rental. And it gave me time to realize I should continue drinking and using my pool. I think 420 and Patches are on their way over. Leftover beer is almost as good as fresh beer!

Oh, and my dad called up. He and my mom just got back to their place and were back using the computer. There's no sign that of trouble and he doesn't suspect that I flew back to fix it. Another case solved.

Man, sleeping at my folk's place is great; it's like a tomb down here. I woke up about ten minutes ago and would've sworn it was 5 am. I forgot that they batton down the hatches for those hurricane things so there's next to no light entering this place. I tucked my head out the door and its raining quite a bit.

I've got like ten minutes of work to do copying over documents to this computer before I'm done and done. Now to track down something for the rest of the day.

You might ask, travelling and no mobile posts? Well, when you rush out of the house and forget your PDA and cell phone (and neolefty's book) that is made a bit difficult. I got to my folks' place like eight minutes ago and carrying no communication technology is not a fun thing. I was jonesing for a taste of that sweet digital stay-in-touch power. Almost had to snag one out of some kids hand and rub my fingers over the numbers.

Besides, there's the whole paranoia thing going on as I left work early with the shit storm still going on. Speaking of storms, nothing better then flying into a place with hurricanes going on. We circled around it, but the flight attendant was like "good luck getting anywhere" after we landed. Nice.

Then for the rental car, I got a free upgrade though its a SUV and I'll waste a ton more cash on gas. But I look cool.

Oh well, time to work on this computer thing. I give it a couple hours.

Saw Mission Impossible, I mean War of the Worlds last night. Great all the way until the let down of an ending. But the real winner is the Alamo Drafthouse in the dirty, dirty south. They have an awesome sound system there.

Heading to Florida this weekend to fix my folk's computer. Well, coming back 10 am on Sunday, not much of a weekend. But from now until the, The Shit Storm!

I think I've decided this weekend to take care of that damn computer problem at my folk's place. I just need to figure out if Yo! can be involved. I think more likely its just if he'll have the time on his end, not if I'm going to leave him out of it.

mobile post: leave good enough alone

So I did a good one on my folk's computer; after pretty much backing it up, I deleted something and his profile is all messed up. I think I'm going to have to come back here some weekend while they're gone to try to fix it. GD it. And what I was doing wasn't even needed.

In trying to back my dad's computer up, I fucked something up. Email gone, his Webshots are gone. And now I'm a few hours away from fixing it. It doesn't look like any of the backups I did really took on anything but files.

So this jackass from Dell comes to fix my computer (my USB and fan ceased to work) and everything looks fine when I leave for a meeting. I come back and the thing won't recognize my ethernet adapter (e.g. I can't connect to the network). What a clueless fuck that guy must be. Anyway, I had to scramble around to find a USB flash drive (thank God the guy actually fixed the USB adapters) and borrow a computer to download some drivers from Dell's shitty, shitty, shitty support site (a great example of how to not find anything quickly). Finally got that done and now I'm back in mouse/Clie world. I have no idea how I survived nearly a week without having my Clie calendar. Anyway, I'm content for moment.

Couldn't fall asleep and then I can't fall back to sleep. Four hours sleep ain't no good.

And my printer won't print, but it seems to be a PC problem. I need a new computer, that's for sure. If I can only win the lottery...

That could be about it. My computer crashed around midnight last night, I lost just over a thousand words, and I'll get next to no time this weekend to work on it. Screwed.

Dinner turned out good. I had a decent bottle of wine, Lindemans Merlot. A SE Australian vintage.

On the bad side, 256 MB of RAM didn't work. A cd-burner on a 64 MB computer is virtually worthless. So I'll have to go back to Fry's to talk to the geeks. Oh, the geeks.
