quiet week

Haven't been doing all that much this week as a result of last weekend and just feeling like chilling, but Top Chef is back! I saw last night's episode a bit earlier off the DVR and they've got a pretty impressive/interesting group of chefs. Seeing this reminds me of how shitty the contestants are for Hell's Kitchen, entertaining, but not above-board competent. That, too, I caught off the DVR and they are like night and day though I can't turn either of them down. Gordon Ramsey is up and down, engaging and annoying, helpful and destructive on his shows but he's just so friggin knowledgeable its ridiculous. Between Hell's Kitchen and the new season of The F Word (on BBC America) one would think I'd be Ramsay'd out, but I'm not. Give me another season of Kitchen Nightmares!

new obsession?

I've been hearing great things about The Wire for years but didn't want to get involved with an existing show and miss some of the nuances. Then my brother acquired some of the seasons on DVD but he only had seasons 3-5. That was until his last trip and he let me know he had the first couple seasons so now I've decided to start watching. Though the first episode was a bit discombobulated I'm blaming that on it trying to set up so much that is coming. I look forward to watching it, probably about an episode a week.

Good news from emjey, more Futurama is coming! This all stems back to early 2006 when they announced the four movies that were cut into episodes.

the remaining day

The bleakness of the day got much better as I took a nice walk at Town Lake, caught up with a friend of mine, some relaxation by the pool then grilling up some bacon wrapped hot dogs. Now I'm knocking out a few episodes of Season 1 of Breaking Bad so I can get that back off to its owner.

Then it'll be watching as the Red Wings try to take an 2-0 lead off the DVR! No commercials for this chump.

fringe & lost

So I started off the late afternoon catching up on the last three episodes of Fringe. This show is really growing on me. I first became enamored by John Noble performance as the truly eccentric Dr. Walter Bishop but now Joshua Jackson as Walter's smart ass son Peter is right there, too. The stories, though convoluted are clever and wrapped together pretty well. Though they are building towards an all-encompassing storyline I don't each episode is pretty well self-contained. So if you have some time to kill on your Tuesday evenings, feel free to try it out. Or put it on your DVR and watch it three at a time like me.

And speaking of compelling television that makes you have to think, you've got Lost. This show is getting stranger and less believable, but I'm still captivated. I had planned on only watching two tonight but went with three just because I just couldn't wait. Maybe because all the previous seasons had such loopy concepts that adding time travel into the mix just doesn't faze me. I'm just seeing so many things getting wrapped up that I can't see how this will take another two seasons to complete. Whatever it is, I'm in. I just hope this whole thing doesn't blow up leaving the producers with egg on their face and me disappointed.

thus far, 24

My laziness coupled with my overflowing dvr has me way behind on the current season of television shows. The good thing about that is I watch like two or three episodes at a time. Today 24's number came up. There were three episodes in the queue and I'm caught up through Hour 6. And I'll say so far that 24 doesn't suck. There has been a ton of action and the story isn't totally insane (so far). And Hour 6 had some great lines, including what might be the best Jack Bauer line ever. When asked by the President how she can trust his loyalties, he responds, "With all due respect, Madam President, ask around." Pretty sweet. And I think I'll move onto something else and leave the 7th hour for next week. What should I watch next?

Well, this blows. I woke up early and figured I'd check out The Office from last week, but the DVR screwed up. Either that or the first episode was rebroadcast. Which I doubt. Wonderful! And now I'm back to bed.

Chilly came by to watch The Office. Then we headed to a mistake of a meal at Texadelphia. Man, that place is NO Jersey Mikes.

But Chilly's on the final stretch of seeing a baseball game at all the MLB stadium. He's off to Seattle next weekend (or is it the weekend after?) then almost immediately followed by a game in Atlanta. Then how's he topping all of that? He's going to Cooperstown to see the Baseball Hall of Fame. It reminds me that I'm way behind on my goal of seeing a game at every NHL arena. Hell, I haven't even seen the new arena in Dallas. I guess I still have something to live for.

I had this dream that was watching a Lost show at a movie theatre and Indiana Jones was in it. Not Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones. Apparently they were doing some TV show/movie crossover.

The boarders rented Inside Man with my recommendation so I was able to check it out (please note, I don't actually have to see something to recommend it). It was pretty good, but it's one of those things that seems less good the more you think about it.

Speaking of less good, I saw the season finale of Rescue Me and it sure was a let down.

Monday, July 10, 2006

I was wiped out all day and now am still up near midnight. Having Entourage (btw, I was wrong a couple weeks ago when I said there isn't anything on TV now. Entourage is great as is Rescue Me) sitting on tape didn't help. But at least I've got lunches made for a few days. Herbed polenta is good with pork and brisket, btw.

Stuck on the couch catching up on TV and saw Thursday's Lost. HOLY SHIT. It almost puts me out of the sour mood that jackass in the cooking class put me in. Stupid guys in cooking class...

Well, I do have a warranty on the TV (I bought it on September 7, 2003. Thankfully I keep my life on this site). But I've got to wait until Friday to have some clown come out. I'm going to have to watch 24 and Lost in non-HD? That's no good. And on this TV, it seems like sacrilege.

Well, Futurama might be coming back, but I won't hold my breath. Though I'd love to see it back, that's for sure. Definitely if they do make the four movies.

Man, that Michael Clarke Duncan guy was on Cold Pizza this morning to promote The Island and he got into an argument with Skip Bayless about Lance Armstrong. Clueless Bayless was saying something about Lance not being an athlete because bike riding wasn't a real sport. I don't know exactly what, but Duncan was refuting his claim instead of being interviewed. He was sitting in another portion of the studio just hollering over everyone and they had haphazardly put together shot of Skip responding. It was great TV.

Tuesday, April 19, 2005

I've watched a couple episodes of 24 and need to stop. I just got up from a series of the most apocalyptical dreams you could imagine (or so my lawsuit will say): From the sight of numerous missiles flying through the air to getting my brother and mother to gather up supplies to my parents' condo collapsing into the ocean. I guess Jack Bauer won't be saving me. Why Jack, why?

Only I could somehow ruin eight hours of sleep.
